Saw Wicked this past weekend at the Fox. No long review here -- simply stated -- it was wonderful!! Stephanie J. Block brought the house down! Seriously, I was very impressed by her vocal performance. Katie Adams went on as Glinda, and other than a few minor word stumbles, she also did a great job. It was an outstanding performance by all and the audience loved it. A BIG standing ovation for the entire cast from the Lou!
Glad you enjoyed the show, but if you think Stephanie was great, you should hear her when she's well... she has bronchitis and didn't go on at all yesterday. Did you see it Saturday (when she was apparantly coughing throughout?) or did you just not realize that it was Maria yesterday?

Saturday -- and yes, I noticed the cough, but it was few and far between and didn't take away from the amazing job she did.
I'm seeing on Wednesday..I'm hoping Stephanie is there because I'm a huge fan. Glad to hear the show was enjoyed.
justafan - that is excellent to read! Not that I doubted her ability to still sound amazing, but like I said... you should hear her when she's well!!! :)

Popular ~ I would love to be able to have the chance to see her again ~ when she's well as you have said. Although I must admit, had you not told me, there's no way I would've thought she was sick with bronchitis. She was THAT good and made a new fan out of me. :)
cubbiegirl ~ ENJOY the show on Wednesday! You won't be disappointed!
Not to beat a dead horse but the lottery turnout has been pretty encouraging for those that want to see the show. If you go again before word spreads, you're pretty much guaranteed to get in from what I've been hearing.

I really wish I was closer so I could do the lottery. It takes me three hours to get up to St Louis so there is no way.

Thanks for the heads up! I just might do that, although I've heard the lotto seats are extremely partial view. I suppose that's better than nothing though.

I've heard that, too. I don't know anyone who has won the lottery yet, so I don't know what the seats are like. The Fox is a terrible space. All those seats (5000+, I believe) with that tiny stage.
Oh that makes me feel better. I was debating whether to try to go for it, but if they aren't really good seats then that helps my decision. I go up to Chicago a lot to watch games, so I might try to catch it up there. Haven't heard much about the quality of that cast though.

I've heard almost all raves for the Chicago cast. I'd love to see Ana in the role. I've heard she's great.
Ahh..thanks. I liked her on SNL. They are already selling seats through April so it seems like a safer bet. It would be hard to explain to my kid why we can't get into the show, especially after driving 3 hours. Now if Stephanie is there on Wednesday, it will all work out grand.

Sending Stephanie-get-well-and-be-there-Wednesday vibes your way, cubbiegirl!
If she's in tomorrow I'd feel safe saying she'll be in on Wednesday... but of course, what the heck do I know!
It just seems that when she's not feeling well, the show schedule seems to take a toll on her towards the end of the week.
Hopefully resting yesterday and today will do her a lot of good. She's not the only one out either, there are a few people that have been ill lately... the schedule just doesn't seem to allow them time to get better.
Thanks justa...
I'd love to see her, but I totally understand if she is sick. I think I might skip the stage door though..don't want to add to the burden.

I'm sure you would understand. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't, although I know people like that exist out there. Afterall, their health is just as important as anyone elses. I was a tiny bit bummed to walk in and see that Kendra would not be going on as Glinda, but Katie did an admirable job, and the show went on as always. I was entertained just the same, and that's what is important.
I'm seeing the show on December 3rd (evenign show). Do you think Stephanie will be on? I'd really love to see her!!!
Not sure candleshoe2, let me look into the crystal ball...
She's not SCHEDULED to be out for any show (as far as I know), but she's human and things happen. But like it was stated... if she's out due to illness we should all understand and just wish her well. That's not to say I wouldn't understand your disappointment but that's live theater for ya, right?

I was just talking about this last night..live theatre is a strange beast in that sense. For instance, if you are going to see Wicked because you love the show, or love the recording, or out of sheer morbid curiousity or because you are being dragged there by cubbiegirl..then it really doesn't matter who plays Elphaba. But if you are going because you like Stephanie J. Block, then it does matter. Or if you are going for a variety of reasons AND you like Stephanie..then it does matter.
Live theatre is strange that way. We have to travel to St Louis a lot to see concerts. But if you travel for 3 hours to see U2, you know you are going to see Bono. Not see a sign that says "Tonight the role of Bono will be played by Michael Bolton". In live theatre, you have to take that chance.
Anyway, I'm determined to have a good time..Stephanie or not. Kendra or not. And today I told my kid that if she talks at all, the ushers will come take her to the kids room where there are no toys, no books, no Wicked AND they charge 100 dollars an hour to sit there. So I think she'll enjoy the show too. :)
For those who have gone to the Fox before, what do people typically wear?

I saw everything from jeans and t-shirts all the way to formal attire on Saturday. I personally went for something a little more dressy myself, but that's just me.
Ok, thanks..I usually went a little dressy to the San Diego shows..I think it adds to the experience to be a little dressed up.

I couldn't agree more. :) Were you able to get good seats for the performance?
I think they are ok. They are middle balcony in the middle. I just adopted a nine year old, and so it's her first time to the theatre. Figured it is a safe bet for her.
