In the show last night (1/ i noticed a male ensemble member in Dancing through Life was wearing a skirt, the same kind of skirt all the girls were wearing, and a different man in the scene where Elphie comes in and dances was wearing the same kind of skirt the girls in that scene wore. Why did they do this? Do you think it was like a joke, or what reason would random guys be half-dressed as girls?
it's so that all us gay boys can have some skin for our money.
The skirts provide more air for their nether regions. It's more comfy, and very stylish.

Maybe they were short some female ensemble members and a couple of the men needed partners for the dance numbers so they made due by using a few male cast members....I dont know thats just my take on the whole thing.
I know! I just saw the show tonight, Idina's last. It freaked me and my mom out!

It freaked you out? They're men in skirts. Give 'em some props.

So I guess you and your mom won't be seeing La Cage, huh?

Ugh.
The whole underlying message of WICKED is that different is good. Having a male chorus member wear what is considered traditional female garb (in this country, at least, but not in Scotland) underscores that point.
The fact that you take issue with it simply means that you're uncomfortable with people who are different. So you're probably not a "littlebitracist," as your screen name implies, you're probably filled to the brim with prejudice. Get over it, already.
They've been wearing the skirts since previews started. Not all the guys wear them, but they wear them as students as Shiz and in 'Dancing Through Life'.
I noticed the guys were wearing skirts, but it didn't bother me. But clearly the guys were not used to the mannerisms required for wearing a skirt. During Dancing Through Life, I worried about how far he would let the skirt go up when he was spinning, then it flew up and I saw more that day than I was planning to...
Gender socialization I guess, girls are taught to not let that happen when they're like 5, but this guy didn't seem to consider that aspect.
