Well I personally know some one who has worked with the costumer of Wicked and all the costumes are rip offs of Japanese styles and in Japan it isnt such a leap for men to wear skirts
It's called costumes. The dancers lived in Oz. They wore skirts in Oz, just as they wear kilts in Scotland. It was the idea of the costume designers, and was not a gender bending concept.
oh yeah, my pal and i noticed that when we saw it and did a double-take. a tad.... odd. gay liberation comes to oz. lol.

It's a costume. That's it. I'm sure no one is seeing more than they expect to either. Do you think they are naked under there? I doubt very seriously they are hanging in the wind under the skirts.
Making light of all the Idina posts, I started two threads "Idina's Blood Type" and "Is Idina a lefty or a righty?" They both were deleted yet roxmysocks idiot posts 8 times and they are all still here? What's up with that?
Humorous posts about Idina (like the one about "Edna") have been deleted. Someone doesn't have a sense of humor, does he/she?
I guess not. Sad thing is, I was making light of the posters, not Idina herself. It's a shame what happened to her, although I think candlelit vigils outside of the Gershwin are a bit much...

Skirts are awesome. I love wearing them. Okay sure, they are more Kilt like then anything but the gay community (well the ones I know) are wearing them. They are called Utilikilts and there is something very sexy and hot and may I add comfotable about them.
So what... a guy wears a skirt. A woman wears a mans tuxedo and no one bats an eye.

This topic reminded me of a quote from a Madonna song. "Girls can wear jeans, cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots, its ok to be a boy, but for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading"
Do you think they are naked under there? I doubt very seriously they are hanging in the wind under the skirts.
I didn't mean to suggest that they were naked, but the guy was wearing very short black shorts underneath. I just meant that girls usually don't let their underwear be shown when they spin around in a skirt.
men in skirts! the style for the new millenium! yay!!
i had been dying to ask this question but kept forgetting. i never saw the skirt person until te 30th. i wonder why he wears it..i swear it was there back in october.
veuve, thats rediculous. i was only asking why in Wicked random male ensemble members wore female costumes, which i dont think is too much of a sin to wonder since nothing is ever said or implied about them. Just because im wondering, doesnt make me "prejudice", and if that was true a lot of these people would be cuz it turns out i wasnt the only one wondering. I have no problem with guys in skirts, i had just never noticed it before. jeez...a little jumping to conclusions? god.
they are simply trying to start a fashion trend. i myself own 2 "utilikilts", one in black and one in camoflage. they are quite comfortable and sure i get odd looks now and again but life is too short to worry about all that...
it was cool and new. i thought it was neat
hey, kevin from the backstreet boys wore a skirt once and nobody said anything...actually alot of people did, but it was great for his career, right?
......
maybe someone should talk to the wicked costume people.
I love how long we can go on talking about two guys wearing skirts in wicked...
I think it's from the book. In the book there are two characters, I think Crope and Tibbet (or something like that) and it is implied that they are gay. I noticed it this weekend as well, and figured that's what it was from.
I actually like kilts, but I think the utilikilts are kind of silly looking. The little compartments for tools and such on a kilt to try and butch it up just look more odd than sexy. They obviously can't be that practical (especially the little velcro attachments), so I'm not sure why they were marketed other than as a gimmick. The most I've ever seen them is at festivals among the bear/cub scene.
To each his own, I guess.
