This was the first time I had seen a show on tour. I was visiting a college and they were going to see the Wicked tour so I joined in. I found the set to be very much the same as the one on Broadway. I had trouble adjusting to the fact that in liu of the vines going around the entier stage and having room for enterences along side. That they used platforms. I also had trouble adjusting to some of the blocking that is normally done via trap door.
Other then that the show was great. I thought Carman was a great Elphaba. She acted the part rather well and had very good strong vocals. She seemed to be the first Elphaba I saw who actually took time to get to know the lyrics of thier songs nd treat them as if they were monolougs ment to tell a story as oppose to a power pop balad. She seemed to be more angry then any of the other elphaba's I have seen at times. I am trying to explain but am having trouble comming up with the right words.
Katie Clarke as Glinda was the worst casting mistake I have ever seen in my entier life. It irked me to no end that instead of looking at the script and noticing that there were points in the script that are made to be funny. She had to milk the crap out of it each and every time. Thus, she totaly lost any and all funny bits her character could have.
Overall there were no total standouts. It was the first time I saw the show since they added in the chances they made for the London production. I do think that because they do not use the hat on tour that ditching the hat for the green witch melting works out much better for them.
I can see Carman comming to broadway at some point in the future because the producers are so content on recycleing the broadway cast from other productions. But, I do not see Katie going to Broadway at all.
