great post. i actually enjoy when they break character. i don't see it as Highly un-professional. i see it as them laughing. If in fact that she did it every night and couldn't remember her lines then i would believe she was not a serious actress. But, the fact that i have seen it with no breaks of character, I believe that she is only human and can't help but laugh. even when the entire audience is cracking up it takes a lot of concentration to continue.

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

Well thank you all! Of course I don't expect everyone to agree with all of my opinions. But we are all entitled to our opinions. And just for the record, yes, I have the program and the t-shirt from the show. I also have my ticket taped inside of my WICKED CD. Actually, I have 2 copies, one signed by Stephen Schwartz that he sent me and I took one of the tickets from the 2 friends that went with me and taped it inside of the signed CD! No...really...I am not obsessed!!!

Hahaha! broadwayguy2's "facts" and "insider info" are cracking me up. These "facts" are just opinions!

"and yes, Idina is a disgrace on that stage." - opinion

"In act two, Idina has TWO line readings that she uses for EVERYTHING." - opinion

"I have ways of finding out what happens during performances at that theatre and she has always done that regularly.. especially with chenoweth." - a pretty vague "fact"... sounds like something a politician would say

Anywho, I have yet to see some proof that Idina is awful. Until then, it remains an opinion.

In regards to Idina's belting: I think at some points, she is belting correctly, and at other points, she is yelling on pitch. That is undeniable. But I have yet to see anyone criticize other singers (like Bernadette Peters or Kristin Chenoweth, for example) for their use of incorrect technique. Bernadette, as lovely as she is, doesn't always sing correctly. Neither does Kristin... LOOK at her when she sings. She juts out her neck (strain!) and likes to yell notes as well. If you're going to criticize, be fair.

What confused me is the fact that people say Idina screams on pitch...but what about Ethel Merman?

"BUT IDINA WILL NEVER GET NODES"

I surely don't want her to, but if she keeps singing like she does sometimes, she will.

And was all-caps really necessary.
It really lessens your whole argument.

Unfortunately, I don't live in New York City so I can't go see it live on Broadway but from what I've read and seen and heard (soundtrack, books, reviews, pics etc) it seems wonderful and Is near the top of my list for best musicals. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are both amazing singers and actresses in different ways. Kristin can go so high yet its so beautiful and operatic and its just full of energy. Where as Idina has this really powerful strong voice that sends chills up your spine every time she belts out a tune. The story line itself is something that people can relate to on some level and the lyrics to the songs are so thoughtful and wise. They actually say something worth listening to. All in all, its a fantastic show and I sincerely hope it starts touring and comes to LA so I can see it live.

The tour launchs in March and hits Toronto and Chicago before stopping in LA late this summer. If you can, check out Adam Lambert when he goes on as Fiyero and Jenna Leigh Green when she goes on as Nessarose! Updated On: 1/6/05 at 01:32 AM

Wow, thats fantastic, it actually is going on tour? Yessss! I hope to move to New York after I graduate but for the time being it's hard to live so far away from the action. I'm so glad Wicked is touring. I don't really mind the new cast as much as some people tend to. I still mantain that Idina and Kristin as well as the rest of the current cast are phenomenal but if their replacements were able to get such a covetted role then they must be good. I've tried to sing some of the songs for theatre workshop and it's pretty hard. I can only admire the actors who manage to do it every day of the week without rest.
