Hiya!!

Which Wild Party cast recording should I pick up? I was just wondering what the majority of you think. I guess I could pick up both :) but would rather pick up the that is "better".

Thanks,
Waylon

They're two different shows based on the same poem, so this isn't quite like comparing recordings of Oklahoma! or something.

True Plum...but if you were going to introduce Wild Party to someone which production would you suggest?

I prefer the Lippa version. It's just a personal opinion, but I adore that cd!

If you enjoy more modern pop based music which is easy to comprehend and not very complex in lyric or composition... choose Lippa...

If you enjoy shows with music based in real character development and period with complex themes that take more than one listen to fully understand... choose LaChiusa...

Personally, I like to be challenged, and so I love LaChiusa's. If you like to sit back and hear a couple of poppy tunes... go for Lippa's catchy score.

The LaCuisa WILD PARTY sucks. Everyone likes the Lippa much better.

I prefer (and own) Lippa, but I've only heard the other version twice, which really isn't enough to allow it to grow on me.

it really depends. i love lachiusa's stuff but wasn't a fan of his wild party. if you're not familiar with the composers, judge by each cast. if you're into idina and julia murney, go for the lippa version. if you'd rather hear some eartha kitt and tonya pinkins, go for lachuisa. and go from there. I love them both.
It fascinates me that two composers were able to take inspiration from the same piece and create such different, excellent bodies of music.
If you can afford it, do yourself a favor and buy them both.

Personal opinion: I am totally and completely in love with a few songs from LaChuisa's version, and if I ever lost my CD I honestly think that I would buy a replacement just for them. I do, however, have a tendency to skip through most of the other songs in order to relisten to my favorites. Lippa's version only has one song that I am that strongly attached to, although I would gladly listen to the entire recording (with the possible exception of one irritating track). I think that, if forced to choose between them, I would go with LaChuisa (although thankfully I doubt I will ever have to make that choice).

What are the songs you love in each version?

yeah i was trying to guess what the one song you hate from lippa's version is... is it "what is it about her?" "old fashioned love story?" "come with me?" (just naming the ones i've been known to skip) .. very curious.

Aww, guys!
I didn't post them because I doubted that you'd care!

In LaChuisa's version, I LOVE "Welcome to My Party" and "Black is a Moocher". But the song that has made my top 15 songs of all time is "People Like Us". That song is heartbreakingly beautiful, and I tear up every time.

I was actually thinking of LaChuisa's version a couple nights ago.
"Ah, the city. So many lights you can actually pretend one of them's shining on you. I always wanted to see the lights of Broadway. I always wanted to hear the traffic roar. I always wanted to be a part of New York City's great big heart. And now I am, I couldn't ask for more..."
I was definitely singing in the hotel room.

In Lippa's version, I am in love with "Make Me Happy". There's this driving force in it that I can feel sinking into my blood when I hear it. It adds so much panic and urgency to the intense and desparate scene. I love it so much, I can't even tell you.

The song I skip over in Lippa's version is "The Juggernaut". My best friend loves that song, for reasons unbeknownst to me. He has a tendency to sing along with the track in a Minnesotan accent, which only serves to intensify my irritation.

oh i love the juggernaut .. actually if i were to think of a song it was similar to the juggernaut in the rest of the musical i would have said "make me happy" .. i feel they have a similar musical line and the harmonies match up pretty closely .. i do feel like idina is a little over the top in it (the juggernaut) though.

Oh no! I LOVE the juggernaut! "Oh Queenie! Do you think I could have this dance? Queenie darling we've hardly talked. Black, why don't go get a drink? wink wink (insert my quick double hip pulse on the beat with matching arm motion) Such sultry and seductive music at times, and then so upbeat at others. I may like this because I have a major affinity for choreographing in my room to songs that inspire dance.

the Lippa's PARTY ROCKS all over the board. The other version has a few good songs, but I wish I would have never bought it and then just downloaded a those songs.

I love Lippa's version, but I have yet to hear LaChuisa's...I'm dying to though.

I LOVE the Juggernaut...I'm in awe of that never-ending riff Idina does.

Overall it's a REALLY great score and a stunning cast.

I think she was probably referring to your "Everyone likes the Lippa version much better." comment.

This isn't really an opinion, and if it was meant as one, wasn't written that way.

Anyways, back on topic I like the LaChuisa version better. Updated On: 8/17/04 at 10:49 PM

I was not trying to stop you from expressing an opinion, darling. I was merely asking you to not say "everyone" in the future. Please do not misunderstand my intentions, and then post a PM on a thread with a comment about me being a dictator. It's just a tad harsh considering the situation. EVERYONE thinks so.

See how inappropriate it is to assume that the whole world shares your view? If either of us was trying to take away the freedom of opinion from others, it was not me. That is all.
