Will Addams Family take the Lunt-Fontanne?

I sort of don't understand this whole Dirty Dancing thing. Cleveland was supposed to get it in its series next summer, but subsribers were called last week and told that it was being replaced by the Fiddler Topol Farewell Tour. Then, in an article from the local paper, it said that Dirty Dancing "pulled the plug on the tour".
I have no idea why this would happen, as it has been so successful at every one of its stops (even though it is supposedly hurrendous) and was supposed to be in Cleveland for 5 weeks. I assumed it would only scrap a tour because of a possible Broadway run.
On the bright side, I now get to see Fiddler for my first time instead of suffering through Dirty Dancing...

Could the MERMAID set move to the Nederlander? They probably would have to scale back, but they could get creative....G&D never appealed to me and Disney would not close POPPINS for at least a good 1.5-2 years.

Guys and Dolls is still doing decently. I'm sure with a performance on the Tonys, it will stay through the end of the year at least. Or at least the summer.

Where is "Catch Me If You Can" suppose to go? I'd guess the Neil Simon.

Though I heard nothing but negative comments about the show, Dirty Dancing actually EXTENDED it's run in Chicago. I thought it was doing well...guess not!

Disney has only moved a show to a smaller theatre when they have another show to come in and make top dollar.
They have been in bed with the Neders for quite some time.
But if MERMAID is not paying the rent,
and ADAMS is knocking, who knows?
There was some consternation that MERNAID was not going to fit in the Lunt, I doubt they will re-design for the NEDERLANDER,
a tour, yes.
If Disney wants to keep a foot up on Broadway they need something new and creative and commercial.

The Nederlander has very little backstage area. If TLM moved to that theatre it would have to be scaled back significantly. That wouldn't be too bad. Less ugly scenery to look at, I suppose.

The Little Mermaid was a big MISS for Disney, so they need to pull something else together that has a thread of theatrical competence.

The Nederlander Theatre just seems like a prime real estate spot, being so close to the New Amsterdam and all.

Well I actually got a backstage tour at the Little Mermaid and the wings are small too. Many pieces of the scenery are suspended in the air and only come down when used in the show. I would even say that my high school wings are bigger than the Lunt Fontanne theater

I just have been reading the TLM book. The seys are beautiful upclose, but not realisitc for Broadway...more like a glass house of wonder, not THE LITTLE MERMAID.

I love the original models of the set from TLM book. Everything was actually clear.

However this is being done, it seems likely that The Addams Family will indeed take the Lunt. This happened last year with West Side Story. Group tickets were posted early with a seating plan that only fit the Palace, and people thought it wasn't likely that Legally Blonde would close. Then everyone speculated about it taking the Nederlander, etc. In the end, Blonde just closed and WSS took the Palace.
I'm guessing that, in the end, Mermaid will just close and Addams Family will go into the Lunt.

Agreed, that is most plausible. Especially if MERMAID remains open til the Fall/Winter. It would have then had a decent run in terms of length...maybe it will recoup, maybe it will not.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

While we are on the subject of talking about Disney shows that would move from this theatre to that. Or what shows are playing where.

I was just wondering something. Am I the only one that would like to see The Palace production of Beauty and The Beast play at The New Amsterdam. I mean, the only reason why the touring sets were brought in for the Lunt's leg of the Broadway production were because the original Palace sets couldn't fit in the Lunt. But, they could easily fit in the New Amsterdam.

I really hope it doesn't.. There are many dark theaters and The Little Mermaid could fit into many theaters.

There was a lot of coverage of "Mermaid" when it premiered here in Denver. One of the news stories was about why they picked The Ellie Caulkins Theater here and that the show was built for the Lunt. They taped off the stage to the specs of the Lunt and built the sets to fit those specs.

I don't think that Little Mermaid would work anywhere else other then the Lunt. I mean, they did build it for that theatre considering that Disney planed to close Beauty and The Beast and use the Lunt for LIttle Mermaid.

But, I think that due to the size of the set it wouldn't work at The New Amsterdam because the set for Mermaid would be WAY to small there. The only other Nederlander house I can see it working is is the Neil Simon.
