Do you think beauty and the beast will actually end up closing this summer? It's doing great business, and it makes me wonder if Disney is taking note of that and will push Tarzan out instead. Or are they dead set in getting mermaid into the lunt?

I suppose it depends on how well MERMAID is received out of town.

I'm not too up in the theatre business, but Tarzan isn't actually doing all that bad just looking at numbers. It jumped almost $100k this week.

It was a holiday week.
It is almost always below BEAUTY and costs a heck of a lot more to run weekly.
Part of the plan seems to be once BEAUTY is killed off People will be looking for the DISNEY name and be forced to watch TARZAN.

Oh ok then, thanks for the explanation. For some reason I didn't think St Patty's Day would be the type of holiday to bring in extra business, but I was wrong.

This my predictions based on a source that I can not tell...but I heard that they are testing a new version of TARZAN in Germany, if that proves to be more successful, then they will close TARZAN, re-vamp it, re-open it and then close BEAUTY for MERMAID...if not TARZAN will close, then BEAUTY will end up at the Richard Rodgers and MERMAID will play where BEAUTY played...that is my prediction based on what was told to me...

No, it's just a figment of your imagination.

Sadly, all shows will eventually come to a close. Even the ones we cannot fathom closing. Even Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, and Lion King will.

Look at what happened with the Producers.

Wouldn't moving a show to a third theater make it more of a "laughing stock" than it is worth? It already gets mocked from the first move.

Contrary to what people think, I found that Beauty's effects were great even after the move from the Palace. The show was still magical to me.

Sure, it was spectacular with the pyrotechnics shooting out of the giant champagne bottles, but, I mean, I think it's fine the way it is now.

The whole reason Mermaid is pushing Beauty out is that it will fit into the Lunt. (Mermaid couldn't get the PQ theatre, so the Lunt was the best fit.)

As sad as it is, B&TB is really on its way out. I don't think there's any chance of Beauty moving to the Richard Rodgers. If remember correctly when they posted the closing notice, the head of Disney Theatrical Productions said that the reason they didn't close Tarzan instead of Beauty was because the Richard Rodgers is too small for both Beauty and The Beast AND The Little Mermaid. So either B&TB or The Lion King had to go, and Lion King still has years left. Plus they wouldn't close a show that they just moved a few months ago.

I personally love the show and I saw it at Lunt. But from my short time around here, the show has been majorly mocked because it had to move once already. I am just pointing out that moving it another time would make the mocking even worse.

Beauty and the Beast is closing. End of subject. It's good that Disney is deciding to close it to bring in another show, though I doubt it will be artistically successful.

I think artistically, Little Mermaid can be a very beautiful show. Maybe not as majestic/elegant as Beauty, but very colorful. I am not sure about the whole rollar skating thing, with the actors skating on stage, if that's even true.

I don’t think anybody here really mocks Beauty and the Beast for moving theatres. It’s a sour subject because the show was downsized when it moved. I believe the show now uses the sets from the first national tour which are no wear near as opulent as the original Broadway sets. The effects were downsized some as well as the cast and orchestra. That’s why people mock it. Not just because it moved theatres. The Chicago revival has played three different theatres and no one ever "mocks" it for moving...

Show's aren't mocked because they move theatres. Many shows do it. The original productions of Fidller, Gypsy, A Little Night Music and Cabaret all moved theatres. BatB was mocked because the show was condensed physically. It was scaled back to a ridiculous degree. Cast members were cut, many set pieces were removed and the entire show just seemed a lot more cheap looking. Hence why Forbidden Broadway came up with "Beauty's been decreased".
