Allentown, the archives filmed will never be released. Disney doen't own the rights, the tapes belong to Lincoln Center. And they can never be released.

FutureAladdinOnB'Way, that is why teens who have heard of Wicked or Rent shouldn't be on this board.
While Beauty IS closing, here's a snippet from Broadway.com:
"Disney's Beauty and the Beast played to almost sold-out crowds in the second week of spring break, filling the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre to 98.38% capacity and joining Mary Poppins, The Lion King and perennial winners Jersey Boys and Wicked on the top-five list. Family-friendly favorites Tarzan and Hairspray enjoyed healthy houses, as well, filling their theaters to 90.65% and 91.59%, respectively.
FRONTRUNNERS (By Capacity)
1. Jersey Boys (100.69%)
2. Wicked (100%)
3. Mary Poppins (99.60%)
4. The Lion King (99.24%)
5. Beauty and the Beast (98.38%)"
And yet theyr'e keeping Tazan open.

Sad. My hope is Disney takes Beauty on a "farewell" tour this year
Actually last week BEAUTY was at an amazing 98.4%!

Which makes it even harder to think that it's closing when it has such a great capacity and still making lots of money
Mermaid needs the space of the L/F. Not that that's the ONLY reason, but it's one of the big ones.

FutureAladdinOnB'Way - no insult. If only it was that easy to move a show.

It's called closing on top. Why wait until Beauty is making 40%-60% a week like "The Producers." Why not go out with a bang, so when the show comes back in 10 years, it will be at a demand rather than just an unessessary revival. It's smart. Tarzan is a new show, and as much as I hate it, people I know that have seen it seemed to enjoy it, so I guess the avg. tourist is enjoying the show.
I wish moving shows was easy. I personally would like: tarzan to close, mermaid to the minskoff {before lion king moved}, Lion King to the Palace and eveything else the same. I don't know, just personal preferance.
That bang stuff is bulls*it. If it was going to close with a bang and go out on top it would have had to have closed years ago. Don't get me wrong I adore the show, I love the score, and I don't want it to close, but it was on top before the Lion King opened. Not so much anymore. Business is only picking up because of the closing notice. And, honestly, if they refuse to replace Steve Blanchard then I would rather they close it.

Yankeefan007, ok lol...I do wish it was easy to move shows as well, although I'm sure Disney could pay LB to move theatres
some people would say that if Disney just heald on for a few more months they wouldn't have to pay Blonde to move theatres... not me, but some people...

Well I'm sure Disney could pay off both LB and Grease to find a new spot
do they really? are they expecting Legally Blonde to flop? what if it doesn't? Updated On: 3/19/07 at 08:51 PM

Grease is set for the Brooks Atkinson, but they still have that small shread of hope that the Palace will become available.
I am sure Beauty will close, but was wondering does anyone think it will extend?

They're still closing on top, look at the Producers.
No, they picked that date for a reason. Unless of course, they think Little Mermaid needs more time to change stuff, but I doubt it. The cast is already planning other projects and stuff, everyone is moving on. And why would they refuse to replace Blanchard? I've heard he sucks, so why keep him?

Beauty closing makes sense. Little Mermaid will be that much more of a guaranteed smash without Disney competing with itself with, like they said, another princess musical. I dunno, it seems like simply supply/demand to me...
I think they might bring Beauty back in three years like Les Miz with an all new cast, some new costumes, some new sets and maybe some new orchestrations.
and out of curiosity has a musical EVER recouped at the Brooks Atkinson? ...just throwin’ that out there...

I'm going to miss it too ...it's going to be weird not seeing it in NY anymore
FutureAladdin - LB's set is massive. Since they booked the Palace they designed the set to fit the space. They're not just going to move into a smaller theatre to please Disney. They would have to completely redesign and rebuild the set.
Yeah, when i saw it in san fran, i was shocked because they were huge!
It kind of amazes me that beauty and the beast has been as big as it has(sorry i don't mean to upset anyone) i just thought it was average at best(it didn't last to long here in the uk and the tour doesn't sell to well).
Also i didnt realize moving theatres were such a big deal, its done all the time in the west end.
Mamma Mia is on its second theatre
Chicago is on its second theatre
And FAME is going in to its FIFTH theatre
