I know it's common that most American show transfers to London don't go over very well - so how does that bode for Book of Mormon? Will the British audience take to that kind of humor?

What are you talking about? Legally Blonde was a west end hit!
^ Fairy tales and airheads are fairly universal, but we don't have mormons in the UK!
Whilst Mormons are not a big thing here in the UK we always have them doing door to door so we all know of them. Also it's the fact its by the writers of South Park and Avenue Q (huge hit here) which will get peoples attention.

You also have a history and culture of colonization, and religious proselytizing. Seems like prime satire for the audience there.
All most Brits know about Mormonism is Mitt the Twit.
Book of Mormon will do well in the West End for all sorts of reasons that the cast and creatives never intended.
I'm already getting my teeth and socks whitened in anticipation.
The British love anything that makes fun of Americans idiocy. Why do you think Enron was such a big hit? I think Mormon will be more popular in UK than here honestly.
T
Yes, it really will. I know we don't have much mormon experience, but we all know Jehovah's Witnesses so we do know "annoying" religious fanatics. South Park is big over here, and Avenue Q ran for 5 years in town, and has done 2 national tours.
And as said above, we do like to laugh at Americans.
I realize Legally Blonde, Shrek, and many other big commercial musicals made splashes there, and I know Book of Mormon is pretty splashy, but I guess I just wondered if it would transfer well over there. Not everything we've sent over there has been a hit - Spring Awakening, Hair, among many others have all gone over with big expectations and fallen flat, so it was a valid thought in my mind if Book of Mormon would do well given that thought.
Booking hasn't even opened to the general public yet. I made my booking yesterday as part of a special advance opportunity and was struggling to find seven seats together.
So I would say on the basis of that anecdotal information this is doing extremely well.

I've found that presales don't always have the best seating. Not to mention you're looking for seven seats together.

Yes, I think it will. It's a very good unique show. London will salivate over its success from the US. Plus the location of the theatre is a plus and cannot hurt at all as it is smack in the middle of a very touristy area.
Any idea on cast yet?

I wish Gavin Creel could open it here. Sooo badly.

I'm sure it will do well there, honestly, most Americans don't have much contact with Mormon's, most know about them to the same extend Brits do.
Will it be enough of a brand however, to not need names?
Mormon will also be a big draw for the American tourist.
I am curious if they will change a lot of the American references-they did change stuff for Rent and Avenue Q, after all. There are several cultural references that might not be very familiar to British audiences.

The name being mentioned a lot for Elder Price is Mark Evans, a former Fiyero and currently playing Sam Wheat in Ghost.

Mark Evans is just a rumor, and I feel it only has to do with the way he looks.
He's fine on the eyes, but I honestly think he's somewhat talentless and lacking in stamina. He's got a terrible attendance record at Ghost.
