jukebox, none of them are family members of mine either but I have to agree that your comment about them having weak voices is ridiculous. I HAVE seen all three of them live in their Broadway shows and weak is not a word that came to mind, with any of them. Until you've seen them live, and tv does not include live, your opinion isn't an informed one. Opinions are good but informed ones are better.
Oh, I see, because you're opinion is different, that makes it well informed?? I don't understand. Some people who have seen Idina Menzel live thinks she screams. Others disagree totally. Does that mean one is more informed than the other, or it's just a matter of different taste? I'm sure if I saw these women live, I'd feel the same exact way. If you're a fan of them, great for you. If you're a fan, and you see them live, of course you'll enjoy it. If I see them live now, and still feel the same way, does that mean I'm less informed??? Doubtful...just accept the fact that people aren't always going to agree with you, that's the point of these boards and move on kids...move on...

You're missing the point. If you haven't actually SEEN a performer live, your opinion of how they perform LIVE isn't an informed one. Is that so difficult to understand? It has nothing to do with a difference of opinion. And honestly, I'm not a fan of Toni Braxton, never have been but I still had to give her credit that she did a great job live. I'm well aware that not everyone agrees with everyone else, like I said, it's not a question of everyone, or even ANYone, agreeing with me. Think about it.
You're missing my point. I've seen them perform on various television programs, which I understand is not watching them live on stage. HOWEVER, if I feel that their voices are weak on said programs, and even on recordings, I doubt my opinion will be changed by seeing them live. I simply think they have weak voices. That's all...
No - that's not the issue either.
The issue is that Britney is 20 years too young for the role. It should never have gone beyond the fact of her age.
Jukebox...i respect ur opinion..if they don't work for u ...what the hell? none of them really pay my bills...say whatever you want about them....but i would like you to talk about them after you saw them live in their shows. I can say BKLYN was terrible becuz i have seen it. It is my opinion, but i actually saw the show. Anyhow everyone is entitled to their own opinions...so feel free to express whatever you think. I just happen to get annoyed by people who go "yeah..Little Women is really good"...then i ask have you seen it? and they answer "nah..but my friend told me so" it's kinda stupid. I wasn't impressed about Tamyra in American Idol....i didn't even go to see the show because of her...but then i was so impressed...i can't tell you. So TV doesn't really showcase some people's talent.
muscle...fair enough, thank you for saying that. Maybe I should have been more specific when I said that what I've heard of them thus far hasn't thrilled me. I agree, live performances can sometimes be very different. I didn't care for "Brooklyn" either, but I did enjoy Eden...that I saw live. "little women" I saw live, and i wasn't a fan...hehe...

i hated Bklyn and i hated Little Women..i was just using examples...and Eden is great...i hope she gets to star in a good show soon....Eden as Elphaba 2006!!! lol
But there is a big difference between 23 and 34. I feel 23 is too close to teenage years. I don't find a big difference between 34 and 41 (the age Verdon was when she played the role.) Mid 30's/early 40's is perfect for the role - in my opinion.
I am listening to some Britney songs, to really listen to her vocals. If she can sing live like she does on songs like "I'm Not a girl.." I think she will be fine. I just don't think she would be used to singing live so much. I think she can pull off the "kewpie doll voice" with her singing, that Christina uses.

I am listening to Britney's debut album...
And I must say she DOES display vocal ability on this album (More than on any other one of her albums.) I just hope what happened after this album didn't ruin her voice.

Now, Britney I have seen live (don't ask) and the girl just can't sing. I know what people are trying to say about it not being a "vocal" role, but I don't buy that. I understand a character, for character purposes, not having the best voice, but it's still a musical, and if someone is singing, they better be good...she's just...well, not. Her dancing, is fair and her "acting,"...well...come on...and she is too young for the role...I'm just against it...and yes, muscle, Eden for Elphaba in 2006!!!

It could be worse, like Ashlee Simpson croaking as ANY ROLE on Broadway which would be the ULTIMATE Sin. Let Mrs. Federline do the damn show, and lip-synch even, as long as Ashlee Simpson stays far away....

Going to see Britney perform in a Broadway show would be like going to Nascar and rooting for a pile-up.
haha yea.. she'll completely murder the role.
I hope not, but I'm sure she will be fine live.

Toni Braxton was awful in Beauty and the Beast.....no power, no passion nothing to offer.

I mentioned this in another post, which I can't find anywhere, so I'll restate it.
CONS:
The last thing I would call Britney is a comedic powerhouse. Well, maybe I would, but not for the reasons relevant to Charity.
She is much TOO young for the role.
She might get Cheeto powder on the red dress.
PROS:
The score itself sits more in Britney's range than it does Christina's.
Brit's got a weird little voice, and people keep bringing up her lip synching...but what they fail to realize is that when she performs live, she sings TO her track. I'd say she sings about 65% of her shows, which doesn't sound like a lot, but when was the last time you had to sing in a harness/waterfall, doing 64 counts of choreography and avoiding pyro at the same time? Charity isn't that vocally taxing, and she could do 8 shows a week singing full out. It's not elphaba. Also, trust and believe that she'll bring in her own sound engineer to consult on how to make her voice sound THAT much better. This may be a good time to test out that new version of Pro Tools live that we've been hearing so much about.
I've seen Britney Spears in class, and given the choreography in this production, simply, SHE WOULD KILL IT. If she can't do anything else, the bitch can twirl. I was pretty underwhelmed with Applegate's lack of power, she can't even tip up stage. If you're not even in stilettos, there's really no excuse.
And on to K-Fed.
Most of the dancers in the ensemble are LA dancers from the big three agencies. Obvious factors aside, Kevin Federline is Wayne Cliento's ideal male dancer, and truth be told, he's actually pretty good. Why not throw him in an ensemble track? It's not like anyone from NY would be losing the job because Wayne uses the same 15 dancers for everything anyway.
And lastly, God willing, they'll make him lose the cornrows.
Do you think Denis O'Hare would stay with the show? I cannot see him and her and having chemistry together. He seems a bit old for her. And that elevator scene?? Can Brit pull that off? I saw the show last week and thought that CA had great comic timing-but then I have always thought she was very funny. I was one of the people who watched her sitcom Jesse. And liked it.
