Hey, you guys know everything. If a theatre is holding tickets for you, but you're unable to use them. Could you sell/give the tickets to a friend? They say you need to show ID and all of that. Could you call the theater with the person's name? Has anyone ever done this?

How did you originally purchase? Telecharge or Ticketmaster? You should contact them and they can help you switch the name under which they are held.

What dramamama asked... how did you purchase the tickets? There are different policies. I think some of the discount programs (e.g. Hiptix) let you switch tickets. Also depending on the vendor and the venue they can sometimes be lax about checking your ID when you pick up the ticket.

It was one of the two. I'd have to check. It wasn't Hiptix or something like that. It's so tricky. Sometimes I'll go to will call and they don't ask for any id, sometimes they do. It's hit/miss.

While there have definitely been times where I haven't been asked for ID, I would not rely on a box office being "lax" about that sort of thing. Because if on the off chance they DO ask for ID, and I have been asked in the past, then you're friend is out of a ticket and you're out of the money you purchased it for.

I agree. I wouldn't want to chance it.

If you can go to that show at a later date, you can also usually get Telecharge to move them for you. (Technically, you rebuy new tickets and then they cancel the original order, but same end result)

Oh, I definitely wouldn't count on it. I'm just pointing out that it does happen. It would of course be easier if you had physical tickets or a print out because they'd be even less likely to ask for ID. That's why I don't mind paying the extra fee, if there is one, when I buy tickets way in advance.
If it was just through Telecharge or Ticketmaster I'd definitely just call and ask to see what they say. Good luck!

Honestly, I don't think I have ever been asked to show ID when I pick up actual tickets at the box office. I have picked up tickets in someone else's name before and never had a problem.
Just recently I picked up tickets that were reserved in a guy's name and I am not a guy and no one said boo. I just said I was picking up tickets for the Will ______ party.

Well actually...
i do impulsive things. I was feeling so guilty for leaving at intermission that I bought tix. I decided to just go to the show and eat PB&J for the next couple weeks. It's never going to be my favorite, but I really enjoyed "The Room Where it Happens". It was worth going back for that song alone. And I got to see LMM this time. Now I can move on.

Often at will call they want to see the actual charge card used to purchase the tickets. And without that they wouldn't let me get the tickets until 5 min before curtain. Don't remember if they wanted an ID in that case.
