I don't think he would, but who knows?

If Curtains isn't nominated, I don't think DHP would want to host the show. And if he did, I don't think they'd allow a number from a non-nominated show.
I can't imagine Curtains NOT being nominated - particularly if Pirate Queen is anywhere near as bad as people are saying.
The nominees will be
CURTAINS
SPRING AWAKENING
GREY GARDENS
and either LEGALLY BLONDE, PIRATE QUEEN orMARY POPPINS

Don't forget Lovemusik.

"Given that David Hyde-Pierce is now officially a Broadway leading man, does anyone else think he'd make a great Tony host?"
---Personally, no.
"He did host the Primetime Emmy's a few years back...."
---The ratings that year were horrible.
"I have a feeling he'd accept too for the same reason Hugh Jackman did when Boy From Oz was up for Tonys."
---Jackman is a recognizable commodity and they were banking on his fame from X-Men and his other films to sell the show. Pierce, now that Frasier's been off the air for a while, is nowhere near as recognizable as Jackman.
"If "Curtains" isn't nominated for Best Musical which, although I loved it, is a distinct possibility, DHP and company would still get to perform a number from the show if DHP hosts."
---Highly unlikely, but as you said, anything is possible.

CURTAINS will be nominated for Best Musical. I don't like the idea of David Hyde Pierce hosting, simply because I find it obnoxious when a nominee hosts the show. Just like with THE BOY FROM OZ, the only Tony Award that CURTAINS has any shot in hell of winning is Best Leading Actor, but David Hyde Pierce won't have it as "in the bag" as Jackman did. Let Julia Roberts host it. I really don't care. As not as the host isn't a nominee.

Rosie's ratings were FAR from the highest the Tonys ever received. Not even close. One year she drew around 7-8 million viewers which was up from the usual 6 million or so that they telecast had drawn in the years immediately prior to her hosting (and in her last year of hosting, the numbers dropped down to the typical mediocre level of recent years), but if you go back just a few years before that, the numbers were a lot higher than hers. In fact, the numbers were closer to 10 million for the telecasts about a decade before.

Considering that Raul Esparza is probably going to win the Best Actor in a Musical Tony over David Hyde Pierce, it would be REALLY awkward...with Jackman it was permissable because everyone knew he was an absolute lock. Pierce will get a lot of votes I'm sure, but he won't win.

I don't believe Raul is probably gonna win, yes he has been the front runner but Hyde Pierce got great reviews and is a NYC Theatre crowd favorite and Michael Cervaris has yet to give us his take on Weil in LOVE/MUSIC.

"Hyde Pierce got great reviews and is a NYC Theatre crowd favorite "
A theatre crowd favorite? Hardly. This is his second Broadway show since the 1980s.
I would say, at this point, Raul is the front runner.

Did you really only make it through 4th Grade? If that's so, just say it. At least then we can start to understand your lack of ability to use proper spelling and punctuation.

I don't see a problem with having a nominee host. "Awkward" if he doesn't win? No. These are professionals, not high school students.
I think he'd do a wonderful job.

And people who work with him like him.

I'll join the "RING BACK ROSIE" bandwagon! I wouldn't mind Hugh Jackman coming back either. What about a star from one of the new Movie Musicals coming out...John Travolta, Merel Streep, or Sascha Baron Cohen. Now that would be hilarious.

Ok just for fun and to cause trouble let LuPone host it! It won't bring in numbers but it would be one hell of a funny show.

They could try the trick of having Kelsey Grammer give out the Best Musical award, and publicizing it a month in advance. That, along with DHP's current popularity could prove interesting. Does anyone else remember stunt award givers who happened to have a personal connection with nominated categories?
