Contrary to most seasons, Featured Actress seems to be a relatively weak category this time around. Going into the spring, I'd say the women who will be contention for nominations are:
Lindsay Nicole Chambers, LYSISTRATA JONES
Jayne Houdyshell, FOLLIES
Judy Kaye, NICE WORK...
Karen Mason, REBECCA
Liz Mikel, LYSISTRATA JONES
Elaine Paige, FOLLIES
Da'Vine Joy Randolph, GHOST
Jennifer Laura Thompson, NICE WORK...
Melissa van der Schyff, BONNIE & CLYDE
Since the featured roles for women in PORGY & BESS, ONCE, and EVITA aren't very substantial, that doesn't leave much competition in the category. Though we've yet to see Randolph and Thompson, they, along with Mikel and Chambers, have the showiest roles of the bunch. Based on the fall selections, I'd easily cast my vote for Mikel.

Because, while I love and adore Terri White, if she couldn't get nominated for the more substantial role she had in FINIAN'S RAINBOW, she's not getting nominated for a one song turn in FOLLIES, especially when she's up against two more likely women from her own show. Add that to the fact that FOLLIES will already be long gone by Tony time and I can say it's almost a certainty that White isn't getting nominated.

While I'd say Terri has a larger role than Jayne, the buzz seems to have shifted from Terri to Jayne. So, if one of the smaller female roles were to be nominated, I would not be surprised if it's Jayne over Terri.
I will be quite shocked if Melissa van der Schyff is remembered. Most of her buzz was created by fans on here. Her reviews were hardly anything special. But anything can happen in a week year.

I'd be shocked if the four leads didn't get nominated. Especially Burnstein and Maxwell. Gorgeous performances. Plus Elaine. Terry White... probably not. Same with Jayne, probably not.

Without having seen the show yet, I would guess that the reporter role in Newsies (the one based on the Bill Pullman character but is now a female) won't be petitioned for lead...so that actress will probably be a strong contender in this category...

FOLLIES has a pretty good chance of getting 6 or 7 acting noms. Would that be a record? DREAMGIRLS got a slew.

Actually, I would also think Jessie Mueller (On A Clear Day) is a front-runner for this award. Also, if Mary Magdalene is good in JCSuperstar, that would be a likely nom as well I would think.
Also, any chance any of the Godspell cast could pull a Featured nom?

Bernadette and Jan will be nominated in the Leading actress category, Danny and Ron in the Leading actor category and Elaine in the Featured actress category.
The Producers also got a ****load of acting nominations - 2 male leads, 1 female featured and 3 male featured.

Don't forget Rosalind Elias. She has been the first REALLY memorably Heidi; even the original was kind of a throwaway.

I completely forgot about Kara Lindsay in NEWSIES, Jessie Mueller in ON A CLEAR DAY..., and Chilina Kennedy in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. They'll all definitely be in the mix too.
My guess is that it'll end up being:
