Is it so bad that I want to defend someone who I care a great deal about?
And Laura's mother stumbled on here one day, for a few minutes, out of sheer curiosity. I don't know if she'll ever look again, but she came on here one day, just to see what it was all about. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Secondly, what is it that I'm doing that a friend wouldn't do? I'm defending her. Wholeheartedly, every chance I get. If Laura HAD done something wrong, or was being a diva, trust me, I'd tell her to go back to work and not defend her. But she deserves people on her side. And that is what I'm doing.
I DID chat with Laura, but that wasn't the point. Laura said to thank all of the people who said the kind, sweet things about getting well (because I'd e-mailed her a lot of your very sweet get well wishes). So, I THANKED them. For Laura. As she asked. What in the hell is so wrong with that?

Darling, you really need to grow up before I can explain ALL that is "wrong" with this situation. You're obviously way too young to get it. If you want any clarification to your questions, re-read my last post, especially the part that clearly states, YOU'RE the REASON she needs defending.
As hard as this may be for you (and Laura) to grasp, it it FAR from being a concern, in anyone's mind, (other than the handful that post on this board and perhaps the WS shills than continue to pollute this board with mindless thread, after mindless thread),WHO, Laura Benanti is, and/or why she's out of The Wedding Singer for crissake. NO ONE CARES! The drama is all self perpetuated by you and Benanti. And at least one of you, should know better.
iluvtheatertrash, was just saying that Laure feels bad abut being out of TWS. I don't see anything wrong with that. He dose seem close to Laura and isn't some person saying "OMG they messaged me on myspace."
This thread (well, any thread that mentions Laura Benanti) has turned into a flashing pop-up ad for iluvtheatertrash to REALLY REALLY REALLY convince everyone that she is his BEST friend, EVER!
I too hope Laura gets better soon, but is that really the topic anymore?
Is it so bad that I want to defend someone who I care a great deal about?
We get it. Seriously. We believe you. You're validated. OK? OK? I think the next step is for you to stand in the middle of Times Square with a billboard reading "Laura Benanti is my best friend in the whole wide world. Really. Really. She is. Really."
This constant rehashing of "Laura is my best best best friend. I care care care care about her" is doing more harm than good for her at this point.
I DID chat with Laura, but that wasn't the point.
But isn't it? Jesus. Enough.

Al, you may not care, but other people seem to. Luv didn't start defending her on this board until other people started attacking her.
l love you without knowing how... or when... or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride. I love you because I know no other way than this.

I know it's not like Luv just posted a topic going "Laura is lyke the best person ever!!! and I'm her best friend too!" Yes, he did post this topic so it would clear thing's up about Laura's attendance record at TWS. What's the big deal? Updated On: 8/11/06 at 12:39 PM
You know how annoying you find luv? that's how annoying your constant bashing is.

Just tell me this, if someone you cared about was being bashed and trashed by people (nevermind how many people) when they had done nothing wrong, would you feel the need to defend them? And how would you feel if people started harassing you personally both in threads and through PMs for doing that (I'm not accusing you personally of anything, I'm just trying to put things into perspective).

I think the problem is that the defense is hapening at the same time that people are expressing the friendship. I personally don't care about any of this. But if you want to be taken any more seriously stop defending her as a friend, and start defending her as a fan, which is what you are to her ON THESE BOARDS. NOt neccesarily in real life. I don't know you. I can't know how close you are with her. I believe you, and I think it's wonderful, but people will always be bothered when you talk about your friendship. Please, don't think I'm bashing you, cause I'm not. Just maybe detach yourself a little on the boards, for your own sake.

I understand what you're saying. I think the only problem with that is when defending someone personally (that is, to defend them as a person rather than defending just their performance) as a fan, you will inevitably get responses along the lines of "How can you defend her, you don't know her".

DrunkyMcWasted is right. Although, I do see where you're coming from aspiringactress.
For a while, I tried to not post on any threads regarding TWS and Laura because I just found it to be ridiculous the way people respond. But then, when I just kind of sat back without saying anything when people started to attack her attendance record for the show, it got hard. And when Laura asked me to post the message, the majority of the response was very kind. But the five or six as*holes on here (you know who you are) say truly awful things.
But let me ask you - if just one person attacked someone, does that make it less of an attack? No. So, who's to say that by me defending her, I'm doing anything wrong? Who the hell cares that I want to defend her.
Laura is a really beautiful person with a really big heart. Even if I just knew that much, I would probably feel the need to defend her. She hasn't hurt anyone, except herself by constantly trying to get back to work after being sick.
Give her a break.
And for those of you who say those things about me, you might want to take a look at Phantom2. I'm starting to think Phantom IS Tina Maddigan.
By the way, I DIDN'T START THIS THREAD.

well, i dont wanna get all into this "drama", but i agree with iluvtheatertrash, and dont think he, or anyone else that is defending him or laura, is doing anything wrong. thats all. but anyway, lets get back on what was the point of this thread- WEDDING SINGER could potentially close if they cant find a big star to boost business!!! itd be sad to see Laura go, but id love to see who they end up getting (if they do) to replace her...

Hun, we gave her a break a few pages back. Now it's your turn to give her a break.

He didn't start this thread, he just spoke up - a natural reaction if you know somebody - and I don't think anybody on here would have done any different - or if you would have, bully for you but nobody cares.
And Al Dente - 16, since you obviously care enough to be in this thread too.
*g*
Anyhow, I've tried to stay out of this thread, but there's my 5 cents. And yes, I'm a enormous fan of Miss Benanti's. Pin me to the wall now.
And will this thread ever get back on topic?
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight
I understand Iluv's passion for Laura, I have it in many ways for Tina, but I think something must be said regarding the wrongly stated fact that Laura is bringing in any "special" business in way of the box office, I mean c'mon Laura has about as much "q" rating as Kevin Cahoon does, she's had a continued modest success on Broadway with a slightly negative track record of attendance. If bringing in a pop star or STAR performer helps the show SURVIVE,then bring 'em on!
Tina Maddigan, who plays Sophie in the biggest role of her young career, remembers "bouncing on the sofa as a child at home in Newfoundland, listening to ABBA records." GO TINA!!
Ooh, he edited out the "I'm taking a vow not to post on anymore TWS/Benanti threads." Just when you thought it was over.

If Brittany Murphy can sing as well I've heard she can, I think she'd be a lovely Julia. I really like Brittany Murphy. I think she could pull it off. Haven't they been trying to get her to do B'Way for a long time?

The only person who I think is name enough who'd maybe actually do it (and who I think would actually be good) is Mandy Moore.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
