Will Les Mis extend?

Posted: 8/30/06 at 2:52pmI know it's way too early to predict, but do you think there is a possibility of this limited engagement extending?

I think that is pretty much a sure thing. It's scheduled to end just before the tonys. It will depend on reviews, nominations and ticket sales. But they will probably extend it if it does well.

Individual tickets are on sale through March. Group tickets are on sale through September. Does that answer your question?

Posted: 8/30/06 at 4:03pmDid they pull the right for a regional production? If so, for how long?

The rights are still open and will remain open.
Yes, this will extend.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 4:30pmWhen you say "regional", do you mean the school version? If it's the full blown, no age restrictions version, then productions are gonna be EVERYWHERE.

Theatremania has it listed as an open run.
Broadway.com has no closing information listed
(compared with History Boys which has a listed closing date)
But Playbill has a closing date listed. That said, Playbill also lists Beauty and the Beast as having opened in 1996. So apparently, their listings aren't the most reliable.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 5:27pmdoes anyone else have a nagging feeling that it won't exten purely because we're all saying it will?

Posted: 8/31/06 at 12:26amOff topic question, does anyone know about seat quality at the Broadhurst? I hate asking questions like this but it's sort of necessary. Is there a site that shows what the view from various seats are?

Indeed.
The first production is going to be in Utah.

Posted: 8/31/06 at 2:19amI predict that not only will it extend I wouldn't be surprised if it takes that theatre over for several years. I think many people felt that the show closed too early. Especially tourists as to this day I still have people asking me where the theatre for les miz is... When I tell them its closed people look at you like you're on crack. Its quite funny

We love the tourists, here in NYC. However, the show did not close too early.
And, like a foot fungus, the show will run a bit longer.
I'm looking forward to many more years of the same chord progression. (smarmy me.)
It's all about it being in town at the same time as Pirate Queen sets sail. That's marketing.

Posted: 8/31/06 at 11:42amType_A_Tiff, i don't have a site for you but i do know if you are too far to the right in that theatre near the back, your vision is obstructed. in addition, if you are too far back in the mezz it's the same thing: you have difficulty seeing the top of the stage. for The History Boys they had a screen up that sort of allowed you to view what was being seen from that distance so it wasn't a big deal but if you don't wanna watch TV at the theatre, you may wanna make that decision with your seating choice.

Posted: 8/31/06 at 11:50amI know for a fact that the rights have been secured for an equity theater here in California to do the complete show next summer. :)

Posted: 8/31/06 at 12:22pmAlrighty, I'll be the lone dissenter: the show may extend a few weeks or a few months, but I don't think its going to turn into another years-on-end open run. I actually think the production will do only fair business. There is a reason the rumours about LES MIZ and HIGH FIDELITY switching theatres (LES MIZ returning to the bigger Imperial) didn't pan out, and I think it has something to do with relatively tepid group sales for LES MIZ.
