Is it likely that any normal theatres will have Lestat the musical at some point?
And... is there a soundtrack for the musical?
I doubt that Lestat will make its way into community/regional theatres.
And, it's a cast recording. (I'm just sayin', better for me to telly ou than someone else.)
Canceled?? You ARE kidding, aren't you?
Other "canceled" shows that are leading healthy lives in regional theatre: Footloose, Seussical, Ragtime, Parade, Aida...seriously. There is a very long list.
"Normal" theatres.
LOL.
Lizzie, I have had so many HEADDESKS in the past few minutes that I think I feel a migraine coming on. This is why I stick Off Topic.
Lizzie you took the words right out of my mouth.
Maybe the Circle Theatre in Illinois will do it. They seem to only like to do flops. They're doing "Sweet Smell of Success" right now.

No. No normal theatre would be dumb enough.

I love Sweet Smell of Success...I know random, but just saying.
Tehe tht was Amusing
It's hard to say, but I feel it's unlikely.
While many shows prove to have a relatively healthy life after flopping on Broadway because people fall in love with the cast album ("Baker's Wife", "Merrily We Roll Along", "Rags", "Working", etc.), "Lestat" has many huge obstacles.
It's very costume heavy (300 years or so's worth). Scenery you can skimp on if you have great costumes.
So, you've just ruled out most small and amateur theater groups. The only ones left would be college theaters.
And I don't see Elton John or Bernie Taupin being the way Stephen Schwartz is, encouraging smaller productions of his flops for the chance to keep working on it.
Well said, sondheimboy. I don't think Lestat has necessarily disappeared? But I don't think we'll see very much of it. There isn't enough substance to it for an adequate scaled down production, which knocks out a lot of the possibilities.

I'm sure somewhere down the line some idiot or group of idiots who believe LESTAT was underappreciated and the greatest musical ever written will start a writing campaign on Broadwayworld, insisting on its revival, like CARRIE. Or some brain-dead producer will rent out the York theater for a one-night-only concert/benefit of LESTAT at the York with second-rate Broadway performers in the hopes that investors will recognize a masterpiece for what it is and transfer the show to Broadway. This is why New York musical theater is a dinosaur lumbering to its death. Please, God, let it happen soon so we can move on to the next epoch.

Chess closed after 68 performances, and the rights are available. Moose Murders closed after only one performance and it is available. So, in answer to your question, "Eh, maybe."
Um. Wow. This is my favorite thread of the day. Thank you.
The initial run of CHESS was also a huge flop, but it has since found life in regional theatre (albeit in a "revised" form). I doubt the LESTAT folks will bother to "fix" the show (since the main problem was the score, and Elton John reportedly refused to change any of it even after the disasterous out-of-town tryout), but I'm sure a quixotic regional producer will take a chance on it at some point.
It sure would be interesting in the round.
