This irritates me. And Playbill.com reported that Jay-Z is reportedly attached to the project as well: "to collaborate on the music for the film." Now, I LOVE me some Jay-Z, but...
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I don't think I'm gonna like it here.....

They've already done a video to send to potential producers.

Let's just hope they keep the same wig designer.

Let's just be real serious for a second.
Annie is a comic. A WHITE comic. Annie isn't black.
It would make no sense for a little black orphan to be adopted by America's wealthiest millionaire during the depression. FDR wouldn't sing a song with a little black girl.
This is not racist, this is called history.

The whole thing sounds pretty stupid to me. Hopefully, the smug and pretentious brother doesn't get involved, but he probably will.

Finishmyhat-check yourself! Oliver Warbucks is a BILLIONAIRE. Grace Farrell would B!tch slap you if she read your post.
Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

Well, let's just hope Willow don't whip her hair up in Warbucks face when he don't love her and sh!t.

Finishmyhat I hope your post is a joke. There is no reason Annie can't be black and certainly no reason FDR wouldn't sing with her.

Especially when FDR is played by Jamie Foxx.

I wonder what the dinner table conversation is like at the Smith home?
"Daddy, you made a movie for Jaden! He got to be all Kung-fuy! I want MY own movie!"

Agreed; I don't think it's racist to keep Annie as "Annie"--the feisty little orphan with the curly red hair. Anyone else is just some other little girl--not Annie. Sure, do a movie about whatever little girl you want, Smiths--but don't call it "Annie" if she's clearly not.

Oh!! My head is starting to swim as I think back to all those All That Chat arguments we used to have in the 90's regarding non traditional casting.
Not looking forward to this. Just can't wrap my mind around it.

"Could it in turn just be a re-adapatation of the comic book?"
Probably not. It got... weird in later years. And very conservative.

Personally. I think a contemporary Annie with a black cast would work perfectly, including a black president. With some hip-hop beats provided by Jay-Z. Even frickin Miley Cyrus sang about Jay-Z. Black poverty today is not unlike what Annie went through in the Great Depression. But, you know, if certain people are married to the "sanctity" of the various Broadway versions, well, they might just have to let it go.

Breaking news! Will Smith just bought the rights to remake every movie ever made.
More breaking News! Auditions were held and turns out Willow and Jaden were the perfect actor/actress to play all those roles.
