Do you think the Tonys will not nominate 3Penny in the Best Musical Revival category like Drama Desk and OOC did?
Will it be just Sweeney and Pajama Game?
What do you think?
Yes, they will get a nomination.
I agree.
Not to threadjack, but a question is:
There are two shows eligible for Special Theatrical Event: Bridge & Tunnel and The Blonde in the Thunderbird. Will they actually make Suzanne Somers get all dressed up to come to the Tonys when she already knows she's the big loser?
I think they should make her perform "If I Only Had A Brain," because I never got to see it.
It's absolutely ridiculous that LATINOLOGUES is considered a new play, but BRIDGE AND TUNNEL is considered a special event.
Sarah Jones deserved the Tony for best actress, and it's a shame that the Tony voters are too inonsistant with their deliberations to award her properly.
Ahh, that is certainly a moment to remember.

Agreed, munk. Not to mention CHITA being deemed a new musical. What a mess.
The idiots should have ruled Latinologues and Chita Rivera special theatrical events too, then nominated all four (not that they all deserved it, but it would at least make it an actual category).
I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave the award to Bridge and Tunnel outright, like they did to Blast! several years ago.
I think they will be nominated but will not win.
At least, much like Elaine Stritch, Sarah will win the Tony for Event if she gets a nom.
Threepenny will definitely be nominated. They'll get to have Cyndi Lauper perform in hopes to draw some more viewers, if nothing else. But really, there's no reason they shouldn't at least be nominated, even though the show is a mess.
As for the talk about Chita, Latinologues, and Bridge and Tunnel, I completely agree with Munk.
I wonder if Chita will get a nomination for Best Musical/Best Actress? Wow, that would suck. EDIT: Well, not suck, but it sure would through a monkey wrench in the race this year.

I think she will get a nomination.
3Penny will fail to be nominated in most areas.

I am going to be very upset if Threepenny gets snubbed. Cyndi was not even the most impressive performer in it to me(not that she was not great). Alan Cumnming is fantastic, and Ana Gasteyer is absolutely brillant in this production! I absolutely fell in love with Ana as a Broadway performer last night!

Considering there are only three Broadway revivals this year and definitely that many slots for nominations, there's absolutely 100% chance it will be nominated.
As for the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards, I can't comment on the quality of "Jacque Brel," but "Two Gentlemen" was an absolutely amazing production.
That said, I also loved "Threepenny."

Well, they don't HAVE to nominate a show.
I hope they do. I loved the show.
It's a rare production -- the material itself still shines through, from the first note to the last, and the actors are mostly wonderful. Their best moments show them off to stunning advantage (the simple black/white empty stage of "Solomon Song" and Mckay's eerie take on "Pirate Jenny")
BUT: What unites the material and its talented cast, the overall concept and a directorial style -- is poorly planned and in places inconsistently executed.
I kept thinking, "if only..." any other director had worked with this company, and trusted the text. That's the most egregious mistake -- not trusting Brecht and Weill's work to sell itself.
Still, we just don't get THREEPENNY often enough, and with such an eclectic cast, for it to be overlooked by the Tony committee.
Worse revivals thatn Threepenny have gotten noms to fill out the slim category. I'm sure it'll at least get a best revival nom.
Isn't Jim Dale a shoo in for Featured Actor nom?
Oh, Jim Dale's a lock. And deservedly so.
And, come on, you know the Tonys will nominate Threepenny. They'll want to show off Cindy Lauper, Alan Cumming and Ana Gasteyer in the presentations.
If they're going to nominate Julia ****ing Roberts for her star power, they'd better recognize Threepenny, which is a flawed, yes, but altogether thrilling production.
