While it may appear to be shoddy treatment, the real reason is they are trying to close the show with some of the original cast involved. It's both a business and creative decision I'm sure. I just bought discounted tix for 12/11 and I got Orchestra Row E. The fact remains that this show wants to put people in the seats for the remaining month.

Awesome news!

Yes it's unfortunate for Marissa. But if it wasn't for the other Marissa, Marissa may not have even had the journey she's enjoyed these past few months. Besides... that IS show business. It sucks. It's not always fair. But that's show business, and Marissa (Perry) was able to live her dream and star on Broadway (longer than another Broadway newcomer who won her starring role through a reality show).

With all that said... Can't wait to see Marissa and Harvey together again (not that I got to see them together in the first place). I think this speaks volumes about what this incredible show means... and has meant... to so many people. Harvey and Marissa certainly did not have to come back. They chose to return to a show that has given them so much. And we, as fans, are very grateful.

How wonderful that a show 6 and a half years old will have two leads (Harvey and Marissa), a supporting character (Clark as Corny) and two ensemble characters (Judine and Todd) who were with the show on opening night be there on that stage on closing night when the beat finally stops... for now.

yeah..all tracys do wear a fat suit. i was just comparing to then and basically, now. lol. and i guess thats true, niki is opposite tevin...but...still...i think MJW and connie will be fine as starring opposite eachother.

It's standard practice, at least in the North American productions, to have Tracy wear a fat suit. Not all have been required to give size, but they prefer to fill out the girls to give them the silhouette that they want for the character.

Ohh come on you can't even bother to capitilze a NAME?? Any way it's Brooklynn Pulver & no she is a big girl all on her own. She AND Kathy Brier both kept their weight up.

lol ok my mistake
yeah, i saw Brooklynn on tour and it didn't look like she had a fat suit,. but boy, i really loved her :)
at first i was like, ugh, i hope this girl doesn't suck.. but she was SO GOOD!!!

It also seems a bit presumptuous that Ms. Perry assumed her contract would be extended. Hasn't she been missing quite a few performances?

As I said, it isn't about SIZE sometimes. They padded a few girls just to give them a bit more of a butt to create the Tracy silhouette...

I will say that there may be things at play that board posters do not know about.. so.. to say that she was presumptuous isn't a fair statement...

it sounds as if Marissa was shocked more than anything. She didnt see it coming. Im not sure how thats possible, but it seems that way.

still, she wasnt fired. shes performing through the end of her contract- Dec and Marissa is coming back for just a few weeks. Marissa Perry must realize that being able to advertise the two original cast members, who won Tony awards, etc. is bigtime money. It has nothing to do with her.

I am curious if shes staying on as a standby.

It's possible because after her contract expired, there would have been only one more month left, and she naturally assumed that they'd renew it for the month rather than go through the trouble of finding someone knew. I didn't really see this coming either.

So excited about this !!!! MUST SEE MJW again !!

Just got back from seeing the show.

(Been way too long!!!)

Was so magical ! Harvey was so good, and Perry is adorable in the role !!!

Was excited to see Kate Loprest, and thought she was really good.

(I did miss Jackie Hoffman, have to say-)

yeah, not wise of perry on fbook. its there for everyone to see... harveys on fbook... mjw is on fbook... the entire cast is apparently on fbook... not smart.

and millie, i just meant that once they brought back harvey, it wasnt such a wildly insane notion to assume MJW might be offered the same situation. im way too lazy and apathetic to bother to do a search, but i bet when it was announced here on bww, plenty of ppl thought "ohhh are they bringing back MJW as well??" etc.

and has perry not thought of that, and had no one mentioned that possibility to her, i would imagine shed understand where the producers are coming from rather than having a complete meltdown on her facebook page.

and this is coming from someone who really really likes/appreciates perry, and think shes a FANTASTIC tracy.

millie_dillmount, I agree with regards to the whole facebook thing. I understand that there are actors on Broadway who use facebook as a way to communicate with both the fans and their friends and family. I understand that on facebook you can see someone so long as they are in the same network as you. More people are more willing to post things on their facebook then let's say myspace becuase facebook is known for being a bit more private then myspace is. If she chooses to post something there then let her. I don't see all of the posters on here going on to each others facebook pages and mocking what they are saying. Why should we do that with Perry's?

Just watched the video. I found it kind of obnoxious. People think that maybe it's not in Marissa Perry's best interest to post her thoughts on Facebook. Wouldn't you have to "friend" her to see the contents of those posts? I didn't see anything when I went there. She's young, and I'm sure this news was a complete shock. I could understand why she's devastated. I'll definitely head back to Hairspray before she leaves because I have absolutely no desire to see the other Marissa.

I've seen three Tracys (Kathy Brier, Shannon Durig and MJW) and actually thought MJW was the lesser of the three.

It does make sense from a sentimental standpoint.
