I agree with somethingwicked: She wasn't screwed over. Surprised, perhaps. But screwed over, no.

If the case were that Perry simply got fired and had the rug pulled out from under her so that the producers could bring back Winokur then I would be upset. But, seeing as how that isn't the case then I am not at all upset one bit. I think that there were some people who didn't realize that Perry's contract was going to be up in December and thus they assumed that she was closing the show and that is why they are upset.

Thanks, I posted a duplicate thread and totally overlooked this one! I did a search too.

If this is why people were shocked, I don't see the big issue (unless Perry was fired). People's contracts expire.

Weirdly, I was thinking that either they got Marissa to come back too, and maybe Kerry Butler and Laura Bell Bundy, or Harvey quit over the weekend. It sounds like maybe people are getting upset because maybe their contracts were up in December, but they just assumed they would get signed on for another month. Okay, at this point we only know of Marissa, but others very well could be in that prediciment too. Actually, just as an example, after Kate Loprest left Xanadu to go do Hairspray, they did get someone to replace her in Xanadu, although it was only for like a week or so. So, it sucks, but if it was just the contract thing, there is nothing they can do about it.

I actually did not get to see Marissa Perry either when I saw it. Annie Funke was on for her that night. She was good. I also liked Niki Scalera.

London Tracy here, just coming on to leave a message and to show my support for Marissa Perry. I wish Marissa Jaret Winokur luck for her run, but Marissa Perry is an amazing Tracy also and I love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether fired or replaced at contract conclusion, Marissa Perry was sensational from day one and made the part her own. It's just shoddy treatment, and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste to a wonderful show reaching it's end of run.

Can you blame the producers for getting the Tony-winning Marissa back to try to boost box office? While I'm sure the ousted Marissa is fine, what average ticket holder knows (or cares) who she is? Those are the ropes in this business called show.

This is sooooooooooo fabulous! Harvey and Marissa together were magical.

And, I would feel bad for Marissa Perry if they had replaced her with an unworthy stunt, but they are bringing back the original Tony Award winner who was recently on Dancing With The Stars. If I was one of the producers I would've done the exact same thing. At the end of the day, they are bringing the best back and will sell more tickets. Makes sense.

Again, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

Is it even possible for this to stay open after its intended last night? I only ask because I thought I had read the Neil Simon was going to Hair, which opens not longer after Hairspray leaves.

EDITED TO ADD: Okay, realize now that Hair is actually going to the Hirschfield, NOT the Simon. Is anything scheduled for the Simon for after Hairspray?

The chances of them bringing back LBB and Kery was slim to none. I know Niki recently resigned her contract in August...and it was a 6 month, to end in February. so i think shes safe to not be replace by kerry. and i dont think laura would come back to spray..but i can say im sure they will be in the audience, as well as SHOSHANA =)

and i was sad for marissa perry...but...MJW coming back is just freakin exciting. original corny, edna, tracy, dynamite AND iq. yesssss.

not to post an actors age, but, in MJW's defense, niki is in her early 30's..so i dont see the problem with marissa jaret winoker being 35. they can both pull it off with the wigs, costumes and makeup. my only concern is marissa jaret winoker has lost so much weight since her last run...

They can put a fat suit on her if necessary. I'm pretty sure some of the Tracys (if not all) wear them already.

Niki looks great for 30's but she's also opposite Tevin who is around 32 as well.

weight is not a problem... she is a big girl at heart with a big personality.. thats what tracy is all about! besides.. look at the West End tracy LeAnne Jones.. she is fairly thin and losing weight from hairspray.. but she pulled it off! why? cuz she rocks!
and so does MJW!
