The week extension has been pulled and a Broadway Theatre has suddenly has become available...possibly as it needs time to come to New York?
Be great for it come to Broadway....would they re-cast any roles to draw in a bigger box office I wonder?

could happen. I would say.
If Cameron Mackintosh really had washed his hands he would just give up the rights fully and let another produce tackle it if he thought it would be come to Broadway.
Not saying it is, but I think it is certainly possible.

It flopped in London, which killed any hopes of it appearing on Broadway, though a US tour was considered.

You got the bucks and the backers to mount it, then YOU bring it to Broadway because no one else will.
Even the reviews and word-of-mouth on the DC production don't merit a Broadway transfer.

I would if I could. When I saw it in London originally I said the only place it would ever really take off is in America.
I'm not saying it will, but I think there is hope for it coming to Broadway yet...although, Cam Mac is supposedly bringing MFL over soon.

MY FAIR LADY -- hit in London.
THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK -- flop in London.
I wonder why Cam Mac is bringing MY FAIR LADY to Broadway?
Hmmm...

again...taken 4 years.
MFL is a hit anywhere tho!
With a new show, you never know. Chitty hit in London, not in NYC. There a loads of examples for NYC shows not working so well in London and visa-versa.

I heard Cameron is not producing anymore. "My Fair Lady" is touring and I agree, is ALWAYS a hit. It’s MY FAIR LADY.
Why such hostility BrodyFosse? MANY shows get TERRIBLE reviews out of town and STILL come to Broadway. I think we ALL can name a couple off the top of our heads at any given moment.
WITCHES has some very positive reviews that give great constructive criticism. Kudisch's notices alone are enough to move the show in my opinion. I think that if HIGH FIDELITY, PIRATE QUEEN, TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN and XANADU are allowed a chance on Broadway then WITCHES OF EASTWICK has more than earned its shot.

I just came from Witches this afternoon and everyone I went with (whoo hoo all four of us...) think it would be AMAZING in New York. It is a bawdy and fun and excellent show.

Witches of Eastwick got some good reviews here in the UK , some people on here are talking like it was a massive critical and commercial flop.
Also remember that tourism was right down when witches was playing london and people from this country (UK) didn't even want to go in to the center of london because of Sept 11th.
A lot of London shows suffered at that time

**SPOILER (I guess?)**
One thing I would miss is the Witches and Darryl flying over people's heads...Wonderful little technical moment.

Acording to Ken Mendlebaum's Not Since Carrie, he considers a "flop" anyhting that played under 250 performances.
Didn't Witches play for almost 2 years, including the theater transfer? I have read most of the reviews, and while not great, they weren't negative.
I haven't seen the new version of the show, but I do know the show has done really well in like three other countries. AND, it's an American story. I think the only thing that could tell whether or not it will do well on Broadway was to open it there and find out. Les Mis eventually closed here, and stayed open there. Same thing with Cats. American audiences are different.
ALSO on that now. DC audiences are different than Broadway audiences. So, as much positive praise is might be getting in DC, you never can tell what New York will think. I'd LOVE to see the show on Broadway. However, and I know this was one of the original ideas for the show, I think ultimately the show would flourish in a big national tour. Playing all the big cities. Not to say it shouldn't have it's New York Counterpart too.
It's a fun show, and on the road, I think it might do really well. Being that it is a comedy, I don't know if there's enough WOW involved with it instead of the flying and modern (but reminisent of classical) musical comedy score to keep it open on Broadway.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 2:22amI love the show personally, but I was worried when the London production opened that they'd bring it over to the U.S. just in time for The Producers to beat the crap out of it. Now I'm worried that any possible transfer will have to vie for the same audience as Young Frankenstein. Can't this show catch a break? At least they finally got a decent Daryll.

Posted: 6/24/07 at 1:07pmWitches in London was a great show, not perfect but great fun. It played at the huge Drury Lane and looked as amazing as all the great big shows do there. It then transfer to a house with a little more than half the capacity of Drury Lane- The Prince Of Wales Theatre. In its transfered state it bacame a much more intimat show and again worked well with a great scaled down set. It had a repectful run as it was running against the great tourist slump after 9/11. With the right house, the right casting theres no reason this shouldnt fly on Broadway.

What about Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeipher? They both starred in musicals as well.
