It's called acting.
Wilson was straight, Anthony way gay... You do the math.

Posted: 6/19/05 at 11:28pmA LOT of guys have played Mark - I'd venture to guess there are quite a few, even if they aren't as openly out about it.

What does your personal sexual orientation have to do with your characters?

...this thread is really dumb
but because we're talking about marks:
does anyone think Hunter Foster or John Tartaglia would make good 'marks?' ...I think they both would do quite well, but I don't think Foster would do Rent. Tartaglia, on the other hand, has expressed an interest in playing mark..hmm...

Posted: 6/19/05 at 11:35pmI think John could do it, but I think Chris Fitz would be really good at it.

I think they both would, though I don't really see RENT as being a Foster-ish musical. He's also a bit too old for it, I think, as well.

chris fitz was a good idea.. honestly i like mark played in more of an asexual way (even though he used to date maureen... right.)... who cares about the sexual orientation of the performer...
that being said, i had no idea anthony rapp is gay.

Neil Patrick Harris has also played the role of Mark.
What about an Asian as Mark?
Could it work? Even with all of the references to him being Jewish?
Didn't some Asian guy play Mark on one of the tours or am I making that up?

I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!
I personally don't like recognizing the cast of RENT. It should all be relative unknowns, even among theatre circles. I wouldn't want to see John Tartaglia go into RENT. He's too identified by his Avenue Q roles. People recognize him. I just don't like the idea.

Hunter mentioned in an interview that he auditioned for RENT years ago. I don't think he'd do it now.
I'd like to see Tartaglia or Robb Sapp try it. Maybe Chad Kimball...
