According to many (there are other threads on the subject) the show was candy-coated poop on a stick.

Yup. (Use the search function to find the threads)

TO you or BY you? All comments here were indeed serious.
-- by most accounts, it sucked
-- if you really want details, search these very boards to find the threads that talked about the show while it was actually happening.

You have started several useless threads your first day here (not to mention your posts) -- it doesn't seem as if you WANT to be taken seriously.

It was a mess of epic proportions. I like the music and find it to be tuneful and catchy and the orchestrations are awesome, but the lyrics are absolutely atrocious. The book was a complete nonsensical mess. There's still sonething wildly entertaining about this show though. It may be that I have a strange fondness of camp flops...

bp234, Welcome to the club, my deah! (pardon the pun). It's all part of truly loving musical theater. The thrill when a group of artists come together in sync and yield something wonderful and perhaps enduring -- but then, on the flip side, when everything goes off the rails, it yields another type of desperate "entertainment" that lingers in the mind forever...

Headache inducing stupidity and incoherence. Karen Mason and Jose Llana created laughs out of nothing, but there wasn't anything else even remotely redeeming about it. Really one of the worst books I've ever seen in a Broadway show.

I second the headache inducing part.. I listened to one song about a knight and got a headache. And I'm pretty sure I went on to have a nightmare about it.

I don't remember what name it is under on Youtube, but I know someone posted the whole show on there in like 10 parts or something. The book was a mess, but the individual performances were not bad at all, especially with what everyone had to work with.

The music was good (by Frank Wildhorn), as well as the choreography, but by the time the musical reached Broadway (after three runs, two in Tampa and one in Houston) the book had been tweaked, rewritten and then a drastic rewrite that was terrible on Broadway. Each character had a different style of music, including some parodies such as the popular boy-band song ("One Knight").

The concept recording, if you can find it, is very enjoyable, many cut songs and in my opinion, a better album.

Wonderland the Musical

I think it had possibilities but failed miserably.

I would kill to get Karen Mason's second act costume for Halloween.

I found the costumes looked cheap. Though that is only from pictures. I never saw it live.

And yet I found it more entertaining than a lot of things still on Broadway: Mamma Mia, Memphis, The Lion King (except the first five minutes)among others.I think it had a lot of potential but they screwed it up royally.

Wonderland the Musical

I thought Hilferty did a great job, minus the ensemble costumes which seemed directly lifted from Wicked or a sci-fi magazine (the design was such a hodgepodge as well, especially with Sven Ortel's occasionally brilliant projections (ie: "Down the Rabbit Hole") or sometimes disasterous).

I will never understand how those hideous neon-green-yellow "jailer" costumes lasted. Janet Dacal's costumes were horrible (especially the last Tampa run) except for the first go around, but they were so concerned with one review saying Dacal looked like "runaway grown up Annie."
