Well... the show got a Astaire Award nomination for Best Choreography (deserved).
tazber: Wait... what are you saying? (And I'm not a her

)
Been following the show for years now, and if you look at any of my posts you will see I disregard this production. I didn't even like the Tampa 2011 production all too much (but prefer that much more to this version). The current show doesn't even have a heart warming ending or anything. No romance, no adventure, no nothing... Self discovery? That's all they got out of this one somehow!
The new changes don't highlight Janet Dacal (embarrassing enough that THE Alice in an Alice in Wonderland musical didn't get a nomination) strengths that they did for Tampa. Kim Scharnberg (Orchestrations) probably didn't get nominated because critics said the score sounded "dated" (I suppose partially Wildhorn's responsibility), but he did have to find ways to orchestrate latin music, '90s pop, Broadway, rock, etc. Shindle's character as written just isn't Award-worthy. Shindle alone is, but the Award has to do something with the role as well!
I'm disappointed... some people who should've been recognized: Marguerite Derricks shows off all different types of dancing from salsa to "traditional Broadway" to ballet and Frank Wildhorn created an all original score with 20 songs (of course countless for this one) in all different styles. Hilferty has some absolutely brilliant costumes (Queen), but also had some terrible ideas - fembots anyone? (LOL about the Snelson Napoleon Hatter costume above too)
That being said... Cast Recording released today, and why is that not a coincidence!
