And for me, I can't take Close's break. The leaps across her head and chest voices drive me nuts (as well as her hysterical sobbing). And I really like Kevin Anderson's take on Joe, which sounds much more natural and in character to me. I find Alan Campbell's weird open vowels and affectation of accenting every syllable grating (but I did enjoy seeing Bryan Batt's take on it in Forbidden Broadway).

Admittedly, Mr. Campbell has some odd emphasis, i.e., "We're not helping her, feeding her LIES, more LIES". ![]()

The CD version of the OBC recording of Annie. The original LP was fine but the mixing on the CD version is horrible. The primary singers of each song come out fine, but if there is dialogue or a brief solo from someone else (for example the line about making "this dump shine like the top of the Chrysler Building" in Hard Knock Life or the Cabinet members singing in the reprise of Tomorrow) you can hardly hear them.

I loved the Forbidden Broadway version of Sunset. I'm also not entirely happy with either recording of the show and have cobbled together my own playlist that goes back and forth between the two. I actually prefer Meredith Braun's Betty over Judy Kuhn's for the fact that Meredith Braun does have a sweetness and youthfulness to her voice that I didn't get with Judy's on the recording (Judy sings the role superbly, but I still couldn't buy it even on the recording when she says she's 22).

The Danish tour cast recording of Chess. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. I was so excited to finally get a "complete" Chess recording, in English! And then to hear those orchestrations, voices (especially Freddie) and accents, I think I got through it twice and never attempted to listen to it again.

There were special limited releases of the LCT SOUTH PACIFIC and the LuPone GYPSY available through Barnes & Noble- CD 1 being the standard recording and CD 2 having bonus material. I think these were the only two recordings receiving this treatment.

Worst cast album?
"Aspects Of Love". I almost fell asleep (several times) listening to it, and when I'm at work, that's generally frowned upon...

I have a hard time listening to OBC of Disney's the Lion King. It's a fine recording and the actors are good but I just feel like they're off somehow but I can't place it.
Was not a fan of CHESS in Concert recording.
The London Cast Recording of Sweeney Todd staring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.
I have tried to listen to it fully but I find myself skipping a couple of tracks which is sad for me since Sweeney Todd is my top favorite musical.
The recording is good but it's missing something and once again I can't put my finger on it however I just feel like it could have been made better but was too compromised to not sound like a mere copy of the original cast recording and so it trapped itself with those odds.

Although I'm not a fan of the way Ms. Hepburn sings "who the devil caaAARES...""
I'm wondering I'd we're judging the vinyl and CD versions of this recording. I have the vinyl version and the sound quality is atrocious. I remember going back to the record store (we had them in those days!) and exchanging the record because I thought it was defective. The replacement was no better.

Which vinyl version of COCO are you referring to? Like Sammy Davis, Jr. and GOLDEN BOY, there were two. Evidently, Miss Hepburn was so unhappy with the first version after it was released, she insisted on a re-recording, and, it seems, not of just her tracks. Even some of the dance arrangements between the two are different (I once had them both). The main problem is, that on the re-recording, Miss Hepburn's tracks are so electronically manipulated and filtered, it's rather like an aural version of the Lucille Ball film of MAME- there's just too much aural filter to get through.

I agree. For me, though, it's because they left so much out of the recording, compared to Close's version. I realize the LA production was redone, but it would have been nice to hear the London cast get to record it. I prefer the London cast over the LA cast. (And yes, Close overdoes it with the dramatics- especially the sobbing!).

Some cast albums I didn't enjoy AT FIRST were American Psycho & The Wild Party (LaChiusa). I could see why they became flops. But I have listened to them more and enjoyed it. Now for cast albums I don't like at all, On Your Feet! wasn't really my favorite. I wish they would've done a studio recording rather than a live one. It just doesn't sound right.

This is the first time I've heard about COCO'S 2nd recording.

The cuts made for the original Broadway cast recording of THE GOLDEN APPLE are just as painful as the ones made to FOLLIES. How I wish this year's Encores production had been recorded. I tried to listen to the recent full recording of a college production of THE GOLDEN APPLE, but the tempos and some of the voices were too off-putting for me.

The West End Passion recording. I don't remember who played Fosca, but it's one of the worst performances I've ever heard. Every line was over the top and mugged, it made the show into a damned comedy. And I'm one of those people who genuinely like Passion.
