Sebastian Bach in J&H was pretty bad too.
Most "star" replacements typically give pretty bad performances mostly because I imagine they are usually not theatre/stage professionals.
We should start a new tread about Star Replacements that did just as good if not a better job than that of the original star (like I heard about Reba McIntire in AGYG).

Susan Anton in the All Shook Up tour. Good lord.
My dad said that Molly Ringwald was awful in the Sweet Charity tour as well. (He played both shows...)

Jerry Lewis in the National Tour of "Damn Yankees"! He was fine on Broadway because he was kept under control, but in the tour, he stopped the show for 20 minutes and did his "routine". He was awful.

National tour of Evita-Sarah Litsinger (sp?) as Eva.
She'd just been Belle in Beauty and the Beast and she sounded like Belle singing Eva.
Ugh. The Che in that production (can't recall his name) was underwhelming as well.

Jerry Lewis did the excact same thing in Londons Adelphi- the audience had no idea what he was on about. Apart from that Damn Yankees was a damn good production but dissapeared between closing at the Adelphi and the planned transfer to the Victoria Palace. We only had it for 2 months. It lost. as you can imagine a fortune when the transfer didnt happen.

Hailey Duff-- Hairspray..
Actually, most of the Hairspray stunt casting... I wasn't too fond of any of them. Ashley Parker Angel was pretty decent though.

I will add, The entire performance of The Phantom of the Opera after waiting 6 months to see it in 1990. The orchestra was off, the performers were off and the chandelier lurched to the stage! It was my partner, at the time, and I's 4th anniversary and we were so excited. Stayed at the Waldorf, did the nice lunch and car thing to the theatre and left the theatre pretty disappointed. Actually a lot of people were and were voicing upon leaving the theater.

Quote from Vincent:
"wow..this is one mean thread.you dont have to like the show...but the tearing people apart...come on guys!!!
did it ever occur to you that there are several actors who do go to this site and see what is written? especially people from the broadway community.
I dont know just seems that this is no longer a forum but a negative posting board and it will deter people from wanting to join and be part of what is supposed to be a forum about broadway and the shows. To rip people apart and then say they suck when they are doing the best they can is just mean spirited.
whoever started this thread ...isnt there anything else you can write about?'"
--------
I'm sorry, Vincent, but for actors to be "doing the best they can" is just not good enough. They are being paid to be brilliant. Name actors like Harry Hamlin and Usher are cashing in on their fame to help a show put bums on seats. If I'm going to pay the expensive cost for a ticket to see a show, I expect the best... not some second rate has-been like Jerry Mathers whose name will pull in a couple of audience members who'd never normally see a Broadway show.
That said, my partner and I had the misfortune to see CHICAGO last December starring Huey Lewis... pee-uuw!

Ghostlight2..
I never knew that Nathan Lane used the triple threat remark in reference to anything.
The sad truth of the matter, is that no matter how nice or likeable Doug and Deb Henning may have been. The show was a HUGE mistake. A big part of the reason why, is that honestly.. those two cannot sing, dance or act.
I saw the show.. .and honestly... if it wasn't for the performances by Chita Rivera and Nathan Lane.. that show would have closed a week after opening... at best.
It is interesting though that you didn't take offence to my stating that Alec Baldwin was like a stick of wood.. or the other comments I made.

The original entire cast of WICKED.
I'm not ashamed to say, I fell asleep during the show. TWICE.

Idina in Wicked...I get that people love her, but truly for me all she does is scream.
Toni Braxton in Aida....that show was not in her range and her "acting" was painful to watch.
Nathan Lane in Butley....it just didn't do anything for me.

I'm sort of in love with you know LifeoftheParty. From the first time I saw WICKED, that was totally my theroy of Menzel..it wasn't until that total train wreck of a show "See What I Wanna See", that sealed the deal for me about Idina Menzel. Between her SCREAMING and Coast to Coast Panic Attack on the Tonys..it might be best if she did some cardio...work out those lungs a little bit...

Haha, NYC, I KNOW! Oddly enough, my name is taken from a song of hers from The Wild Party, which I actually enjoy (although I was less into it till one of my friends did the song in a showcase a few years back). But she just SCREAMS everything. In Wicked, I will admit it wasn't entirely her fault. Almost all her songs end with some form of "AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" But still, I was not impressed. I think she never learned to sing properly and Rent killed her voice.
Also, to add another performance I did not enjoy one bit: everything to do with Translations. I can't pin down whose fault that was, but I actually did take a really nice nap for the majority of that play.

The arrangements may have been different, but when I saw Stephanie Block was amazing, and to be honest, I thought the chick from SNL held her own. But really...TONY WINNER? Made me wonder if that casting (sorry), TONY couch was comfy for her?
