"The whole cast of the Non-equity RENT tour was AWFULL!!!! I bet the high school production coming out is better than what I saw..... it was that BAD!!!"
Would this happen to be the Rent tour with Arianda Fernandez as Mimi?
"We need people not to come to Broadway shows wearing shorts and flip-flops. We are working hard up here folks. Find a pair of socks."-Joanna Gleason
"I hear L. Ron Hubbard is gonna blow the ladies...and all that jazz! C'mon babe! We're gonna unicorn hug, I bought some NyQuil down....at Wal-Mart?!"-Bebe Neuwirth singing ATJ to Musical Mad Libs at DQYNJ :)
Bennett: He seemed to be forcing a "rock voice". I know he's British and all, but I don't think that much effort should have been necessary.
Nicolette: Her voice was so screechy and over powering. And I didn't get any heart out of her Maureen and that is so important to that character. Otherwise, Maureen just becomes a big dumb cartoon and that is not the way it's supposed to be. However, I will say that I met Hart at the stage door and she was so nice that I felt bad for disliking her performance so much. She was probably one of the nicest actresses I've ever met. I'd see her in something else, because I think the potential is there.
"It means nothing to come and sit in a theater night after night and immerse yourself in fantasy, only then to walk out the door and be unchanged in reality. This show will live on in our hearts. But where it truly must survive is in our actions, our compassion and our generousity of spirit towards one another." - Adam Pascal on the closing of RENT
Cynthia Peck, yes the daughter of Gregory in some damn John Pielmeyer flop-a-roo, on Broadway, yet! She was so bad I booed her at the curtain call, out of work actor that I was, and usually am. The cow has since quit the acting profession and gone into film making I think. See? For all the Jane Fondas there are Cynthia Pecks.
I couldn't resist this board. I have seen some AWFUL performances on BROADWAY and thats such a shame. Here's a few that stick out in my memory.
1) Jeffrey Carlson in "The Goat" (the best play I've ever seen with possibly the worst actor imaginable)
2) Aaron Carter in "Seussical" (absolutely embarassing!)
3) Molly Ephraim, Adam Wylie and Mary Louise Burke in the "Into the Woods" revival were all a complete joke!
4) Michael Crawford in "Dance of the Vampires" (people actually laughed at him)
5) Phoebe Strole (understudying as Ilse) in "Spring Awakening"
6) Rosie O'Donnell was an embarrasment in that awful "Grease!" revival (Susan Wood was amazing as Sandy though... what ever happened to her?)
7) Charlotte D'Amboise (slid up to her notes and then went flatter than I've ever heard anyone sing Broadway or Off) and Michael Berresse (over acted like hell) in "A Chorus Line" .... (although Berresse was good in "Kiss Me, Kate" and D'Amboise was fine when I saw her in "Chicago")
8 Derrick (??) Williams (?) I forgot his last name as Fiyero in "Wicked" on Broadway.
Derrick Williams? Was that the African American guy with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Balloon head and the complete lack of charm and acting ability? Now that you mention it, HE was much worse than poor dear Cynthia Peck. And at least she had the good taste to quit the profession. Between him and an infirm Ben Vareen stumbling around, is it any wonder I left "Wicked" with a big question mark over my head?
I have to jump in for a second and say that you're the first person I've ever noticed complaining about him OVER acting. Usually everyone says the opposite.
the worst I've seen were Daphne Rubin-Vega in Les Miz and Constantine Maroulis in The Wedding Singer. Honorable mention to the Judy understudy in ACL who I saw a while ago (and whose name completely escapes me right now).

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

DFWactor - I completely agree with you about James. I feel like he is a good performer but he thinks he is just all that and I can't stand that about people. I saw Camelot this past May with him and I was stage dooring and he came out. Well some people were like, "OMG you would be so good in Phantom of the Opera...you have such an amazing voice" which then he proceeds to tell them, "Well I don't perform in shows that have already been created...I only do new work". which doesn't make any sense because he was performing in Camelot. Apparently he's not the brightest out there either.
If you hide from yourself, be someone else for someone else's sake, that would be the greatest mistake - bare
I had to sit through Hasselhoff in J/H. Hated every freaking moment of it.
Also had to hate: All Shook Up.
Near the end of the ORIGINAL Les Mis, the show was pitiful, granted the buzz was that they had just fired a number of folks and threw the new ones in before they were ready, but still it was bad.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
The worst performance I ever saw of Phantom was on Broadway. I'd been told not to base my opinion of the show on a tour so I went to New York and saw it. My opinion did not change, in fact, it got worse.
Lori Ann Ferreri-Wicked(Nessarose u/s) She wasn't bad but she has a lisp that really drove me nuts. She was a sweetheart at stagedoor though and I felt guilty for not liking her performance. Same thing with the woman (who's name I can't think of now) that plays Joanne in the touring company of Rent.
Don't believe everything that you hear! Only the peeps involved know the truth!
