Since the three revivals all have great reviews... which most likely to be nominated in the category but would GREASE make it as number 4 by default? any thoughts?

yes, 100%.
Not if there is a God in Heaven.
To put it in the same category with three wonderfully reviewed revivals would be an idiotic move.
Letting them perform on the show is another matter.
I hear the TONYs may include many musical numbers from shows not even nominated.
Couldn't they just nominate three? Like the year of Sweeney Todd, The Pajama Game, and The Threepenny Opera?
I believe that was because there were only three that year. I hope they do start letting other musicals perform. The performances are one of the main reasons I watch (and some of the acceptance speeches).

Isn't it 75%?
It wouldn't surprise me at all if Grease did get a nom. They might be thinking that all the publicity of having it nominated plus having it perform on the telcast might boost ratings, since Grease is a pretty well-known and popular among most people.
That's not to say it should get nominated.
Of course it wouldn't surprise you at all....4 slots, 4 eligible shows.
No brainer.

Who is They?
I thought Grease got some fair to decent reviews. I kow that Time Magazine made it a top 10 show for 2007..... Is it really as bad as some say it is?
Aw man, shows should be nominated on merit, not simply for being...
I completely agree. There was a similar debacle a few years ago in the Leading Actress in a Musical category. Erin Dilly got nominated by default.
It would water down the significance of the other nominees' achievements, imo.
I completely agree.
It will be nominated. I think TIME mag picking it as one of the top 10 theatrical events of 2007 -- and the only musical on the list -- shows that not everyone agrees with me that it is a complete brainless waste of time.
I assume that Grease will be nominated simply because it's such a well known show. Also, say what you will, but it isn't half as bad as Roundabout's Threepenny Opera was.
I will be quite dissappointed in the Tony Nominations if it gets a nod. It's insulting to all other productions if it is NOT based on merit.
Just because there are four slots, doesnt' mean they have to fill them.
But, sadly, I'm guessing they will.
Is it really as bad as some say it is?
IMHO, bad doesn't even come close...I'd say one of the worst.
I am a fan of Grease and I really diliked this production (like most)... I think it will be nominated, but I agree that it really shouldn't be. The production is just a trainwreck.

I saw the show on Sunday, and was really dissapointed. Laura bored me to tears. I felt bad I made my mother go.
Maybe when people go see it, they should imagine that they are walking into a small community theatre in a poor town, where they have a 40 year old Danny. Then you might think, "wow, they actually did pretty good."
I've seen AWFUL community theater productions of Grease that were better than this one.
