re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I saw the show at the La Jolla Playhouse and absolutely loved this! I am seriously considering coming out to Chicago and catching it again haha. Elizabeth was stunning as Clio/Kira, a much richer voice (I thought) than Kerry's, not to say Kerry wasn't a great Clio/Kira. Max had the perfrect valley boy appeal, and although not as studly as Cheyenne, definitely easy on the eyes, haha. The rest of the cast were great, and it was nice to see Sharon and Joanna onstage again. I definitely love the wall versus the sidewalk mural, it harkens back to the movie, and the overall effect is just more appealling. Well done Xanadu tour!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

You should totally make the trek to Chicago! re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread! The show fits much more "snug" in the Drury Lane than it did at the Playhouse, and the result is a much more intimate experience. And the audiences here LOVE the show. They're very vocal!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I saw the show this weekend and LOVED it. I had seen it multiple times on Broadway so I was anxious to see this new cast. I really enjoyed everybody especially Elizabeth and Max! I, too, liked the wall mural more than the way that they did it on Broadway.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

So... question. Is the current Chicago production open-ended?

Here's what the Chicago Tribune states:

"According to the producers, there are two likely scenarios (assuming one discounts box-office disaster). One is that "Xanadu" stays in Chicago through the summer and then this production becomes the real national tour, which goes out in the fall. The other is that the show has even stronger legs and can be recast (probably with local actors) here in the fall, remaining in Chicago indefinitely while the first cast leaves with the tour."

I'm seeing it in March..can't wait. I'm the friend of a friend of Max's, so hopefully we'll get to hang out after the show.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Has anybody waited at the stage door and met anyone? If so, where is this stage door, or did the cast just leave through the theatre lobby?

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I found the stage door unintentially the next day around the corner from the front (on the left if facing the theater marquee); I believe the street was Miles Van Der Rohe Way.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Some nights its the lobby, some nights its the stage door. It varies every night, and they don't all exit the same way.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Well, if only I knew that before. lol. I waited outside, kind of made my friend freeze, and only saw a few people and a bunch of the crew. lol

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Tonight an usher told us the door was outside and that we should go there because no one was coming out our way, and 3 minutes later almost the entire cast was in the lobby lol it seems like a random stage door, kind of like at Jersey Boys where there's many exits the actors take.

Speaking of tonight, the show ROCKED! (again lol) It was great to see it from onstage, I plan to go back many many times. I wish I could write a longer or more coherent synopsis of tonight's events but my brain is just not there. OH but I should mention there was this really really creepy guy sitting onstage in one of the 'single' seats, his friend was in the other single across the stage from him and he kept on whooping, making faces and gestures to his friend, and did some other creepy things I'd rather not mention haha. There's a fine line with that sort of behavior onstage, imo he crossed it. But, aside from creeper, the show was great!! :) We also met Max Von Essen and Elizabeth Stanley after the show and they were both incredibly nice, they signed our playbills and took pictures. Squee, I can't wait to go back!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I know exactly who you were talking about! He was very distracting sometimes. I mean I was extremely excited sitting onstage for the first time to the point I'd overreact, but I had some friends who would make a gesture to kind of help me control myself. lol... But the guy did react a lot to the point I would be disgusted.

Maybe we should make stage ground rules? lmao

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

^ Were you there tonight? I wanted to punch that guy in the face! He was so very annoying. I gave him several dirty glances, and a few head shakes. But unfortunately they didn't help. Oh well. But I got tickets for February 21st!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Yeah, I was there. He was kind of hidden where I was sitting and even there I could see him being obnoxious.

So according to my friend, I was the only person standing up a little bit during the title song. Anyone see me in the house acting like an idiot? lol
#49

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

We could see the entire theatre, and you definitely were not the only one standing up and making an idiot of yourself.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Indeed, there was a lot of that tonight, esp. during the curtain call Xanadu reprise. Lots of dancing in the isles a la MAMMA MIA and we love that! :)

And does anyone else think that Joanna's Ad-Lib tonight was priceless? re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!
