re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I'm having a total brain fart right now... what was it again? I was waiting for something with Blago in it... but the show was hilarious nonetheless. Had a great night. Can't wait to come back on 2/21!!

Blago wasn't in tonight's ad lib. It was something to the effect of "Am I the only one here, or is it just me and the Cockatoo?"

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I laughed so hard at that!!! And then she went on to say something like "I mean, I like a cockatoo...not right now, though..." lol it was great.

Oh, that was soooo funny. Half the cast and the musicians lost it there too. It was interesting to watch everyone compose themselves from the onstage views. I'm always amazed at how quickly actors can get it together.

I loved it too! I completely knew what she was talking about when she said that, and then commenced to point. haha

It's odd how you don't notice cracking up cast members when you sit in the house. They must be good. lol

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

So my friend passed me along a new full-page Chicago ad, from the Tribune from this past Sunday, to put with my Xanashrine (YES, I have a Xanadu memorabilia shrine that I do refer to by that name). At the top it reads, "Extended by popular demand!" While a part inside of me squealed with giddy excitement, another part of me left was left confused. I had never even heard the ending date of the show before an announced extension. Does this mean it will continue for even longer than the planned6 months, making it an open-ended show with the current cast members? Or does that mean it will stay here with a separate cast?

Who knows, lol? The ad doesn't mention an end date. lol

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I've been to see Xanadu at the Drury Lane twice now and the same thing has happened both nights. The crowd is not into it, at least not as much as the New York crowd. Is it true that we Midwesterners aren't as "theatre-savy?"

Aside from the cast not being quite up to speed with the broadway cast....for instance, just because they dress an actress up like Jackie Hoffman doesn't mean she's Jackie Hoffman. So much of the original's charm had to do with the specific actors like Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa.

Anyway, I digress.....both of the times I've seen the Drury Lane production, I've been literally the only one in the theatre laughing at some of the jokes.

I hope the audiences loosen up and enjoy this show for the fun time it's supposed to be.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I actually agree totally with what you said! I felt like the only one who knew they could stand and have fun during the last part of the title song. Maybe I WAS the only one who had fun, or even knew it was OK after seeing it 7+ times before. lol

I honestly feel that the delivery of lines given at the Chicago cast kind of numbs down the joke of some of the lines they say. If they didn't pause to WAIT for a laugh, the show would actually be funnier IMO.

While I also think it's great the Chicago cast has put a part of their unique charm into the characters, a part of me sees each individual acting separately as an actor, rather as an ensemble. I remember the OBC was so close after a few months that they could interact very smoothly with each other and make the show much more bombtastic than the script itself. I guess the La Jolla run didn't help them get that down?

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Um, so has anyone heard from ads and such that Xanadu was extended until March 29th? While it's exciting news, was I wrong in thinking it was going to be here for more than a few month? Like 6?

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

They'll just keep extending while ticket sales are good, with the goal of reaching 6 months. Same deal with Spelling Bee, etc., in the past.

Seeing it for the 3rd time tonight, so I'm doing my part to keep the show open!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Me too; I find myself buying another ticket after every time I go see it... lol!

Having looked at Ticketmaster, they're selling tickets well into May. Hmm...

BTW, buy your tickets from the ticket booth if you are smart already. My first stage ticket cost almost 10 bucks more than if I went to the theater and bought them...

Fun, they will totally dominate there! I can see Japan as a Xanadu-loving place already. I think that's where the movie was most popular. lol

Great night tonight. Cast was spot-on, as always. And I only saw a couple of empty seats, which is good.
