re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Saw the Thursday night show... The audience was great despite there being lots of empty seats. I brought my friend along on stage, whom is now a fanadu convert! He was a little ticked off the evil muses messed up his hair, but other than that he enjoyed himself! lmao

Did anyone hear about the whole billboard controversy? What do you think about the situation?

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Hi everyone -- I haven't seen Xanadu yet, but am planning to soon and am looking forward to it like you wouldn't believe, which leads me to my question re: onstage seating. How is on stage seating for a first-timer? (especially in the way of obstructions) I'd love to do it, but I'm also taking a couple people with me, and I don't want them grumbling at me all night about not being able to see re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I've seen it both ways, and I'm very glad that I saw it from the regular audience first. I don't think you miss much from the stage seats (just a couple of gags), but if ya'll can afford it, I would suggest to save the on-stage seats for your next viewing. That said, if $25 is all everyone can swing, then definitely go for the on-stage. This show is not to be missed!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Just saw Xanadu this afternoon. On Stage well I had my fifteen minutes Sharon grabed my lover and I in between her boobs and I was in Heaven.
Loved the show Loved Max and for anyone who is thinking about missing things on stage DON'T. Do it you will love it.

People asked if I was told what was going to happen and I said no which I didn't. They said you were great with your reactions.
Will go again.
Half full house

PLEASE everyone go it is GREAT

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

So... Our beloved show (at least this production) is leaving us on March 29th... re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I'm pretty sure it will hit me on my last show during "Don't Walk Away". I happened when I found out when they announced the Broadway show was closing, the day of my birthday. lol. re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Check the new av. Jessica0414 and I had a productive day at Build-a-Bear. re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Yeah, we saw the roller skates and pretty much lost it right there in the store lol Sonny bear's shorts took some work, though. I think the best part was that the guy working at Build-a-Bear saw Kira bear's "birth certificate" and was like "Kira...let me guess...Xanadu?" or something like that lol but the point is he KNEW they were Xanadu bears! It was pretty sweet.

Haha, that's great! I was at Chicago with John O'Hurley tonight and saw the ad for Xanadu was right where most people were looking: John's bio! Haha, I kept that page open for as long as I could and turned it in different directions.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

HEY. Just saw Xanadu tonight. it was absolutely the funnest time I've ever had in theatre. The cast, this production was great.

Max is out and Vincent Rodriguez III(Swing, Sonny cover & Dance Captain) was on, and he was good! His voice was fantastic, though his acting was a bit weird at times...like with all the "I don't get it"s....they kinda got lost. But overall, he was great, and looked really happy. (BTW,Anyone know if Max will be back for the rest of the run?)

Elizabeth Stanley. She's perfect. She was hilarious, her voice was amazing, and acting was awesome. When she started belting, I though the speakrs would blow. and her breathy-ness was great. I'm so glad I got to see her!

Joanna and Sharon were probably the best part of the show, honestly. I, and the rest of the audience tonight, thought they were unbelievably funny together, Sharon especially as Melpomene. She had the right energy/sass and evilness and made that character so fun to watch. I couldn't keep my eyes off these two whenever they were onstage! It was fun to watch them mingle with the onstagers and do their own thing off to the side.

Other than that, the show was great. I love the sound at the Drury Lane. Such a small theatre, and it was like a rock concert! Although I do have to say that many lines were lost both spoken and sung because the actors sometimes weren't very loud and the music was very overpowering at times (like during the end of Dancin'), and I saw many people turning to their neighbors asking what was just said. But overall the sound was great and I would love to see more shows there...especially some like Spring Awakening! I do have to mention that Jason Michael Snow was absolutely hilarious and I think he's a stand-out among the muses. He was great as Thalia and the cyclops...really funny.

"Xanadu" was SUCH a powerful number at the end. Sadly the theatre was only a bit past half full, with the first row completely empty, and the back 5 rows completely empty...but nevertheless the audience LOVED the show, and made the closing number a really electric, exciting experience! I still can't get over how FUN the show is! I definitely will be back to see it...onstage probably before it closes!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Really?

I would say the standout among the muses would be Julius Thomas III. . I am never able to stop watching him among everyone else.

-Jacob.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

He was also another standout. "Bitch, I don't know your life" was AMAZING. he got a great applause after that one line. and his tap dance was great, too.

Just wanna add some notes-
1. I LOVED the opening and how the muses come out during "Alive." i think it's better than the lift on Broadway.
2. I LOVED the lights when they would flash out towards the audience.
3. The audience definitely missed a number of Broadway references or other cultural references...like the Andrew Lloyd Webber one.

I really am sad that the show's leaving now that I've seen it! It was so much fun.

"What can YOU DO TO REMAIN UN-NOTICCCED!?!?"

LOL. . I swear I smile every time that man is on stage.

. . and I know its totally overdone and everyone bitches about it. . but I cannot get enough of Elizabeth Stanley's little Olivia Newton-Johnisms. .

The dramatic look back after she skates away from Danny is priceless!

I'm going back tomorrow afternoon. . I cannot get enough of this show.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I personally cannot pinpoint one thing I love about this show... There are so many things I love that I cannot list them all here.

I will definitely miss having the show at my reach when it is gone... I am privileged to have the money to have seen the show a total of 14 times, both on Broadway and in Chicago. I do not know why I am so bummed out about its' closing. I almost cried when one of my friends said it will never go away; that it will always be in my heart. He was so right. I will forever remember this show.

On a side note (off of that rant lol), was anyone at the Xanadu movie sing along at the Music Box last night? Vince was there last night (as well as the guy who sells merch) and got second place in the trivia contest! It was a blast!

My next and final show will be the 26th. Will anyone also be sitting on stage from the boards? It's very bittersweet as it is also my one year xana-versary; one year to the day I saw the show for the first time. re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Just got back from tonight's show. I was hammered, screwed and high-fived, and I loved every minute of it. How I'm going to miss this show when it's gone. re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

P.S. The tech guys in the wings doing the choreography cracked me up all night! Yet another dimension that makes this show the happiest place in Chicago.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I lmao'd at Max Von Essen tonight, he was laughing in the wings during "Xanadu" at some guys on stage who were REALLY having a good time, complete with their own sunglasses. It was fantabulous :) lol tonight was SO MUCH FUN!!! I will miss our happy place re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I was there last night and it was fantastic. Got to hang out a little with Max after the show and he was a sweetheart. And briefly met Elizabeth who was also very sweet.

Most hilarious moment: Max agreed to pose in the cut-out of Cheyenne's body in the lobby and made the "Sonny" face.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

okay- i couldn't take it and HAD to go back. so i went and bought a ticket and saw the 2:00 matinee today and it was AMAZING. the theatre was PACKED. the entire upper section was filled with..an entire school, from little first graders to like..high schoolers maybe? but it was packed. and though the little kids got up and walked around..a lot behind me..they were a great audience. the applause/ovation at the end was AWESOME.

i'm so glad i got to see max live (great to see 2 different Sonnies). I got a picture and talked with Vincent as "Glow-Stick Boy" and got to talk with Jason after the show, and they were all..amazing.

The show itself..I'm going to miss seeing it live so much. the energy from "I'm Alive" was just...exhilarating. I just love it when the projections start dancing off the wall..and then when Elizabeth comes out ..it just awesome. Every song today was great, though it was hard to hear some of Elizabeth's spoken lines. But I just love her voice and it was so powerful in all her songs.

I forgot to say how much I loved Joanna and Sharon's little things, like Sharon's, "He my baby-daddy." That was great...and Joanna's secret, "I'm not wearing a bra!" Everyone was just great, lively, and I will not forget how exciting this show is! "Xanadu" was so much fun today...i think it was because the entire back section had glow sticks..and they were all just really into it, which was so nice. I'm going to miss this show so much!

(PS...Jason quickly hinted that maybe they will be back in Chicago...I THINK. I'm not sure if he was talking about himself personally working here again, or about the tour itself..but either way it'd be great I think. I'd lvoe to see this cast again!)

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

Can't wait 'till closing night! I will miss this show. Every time I saw it I just could not wipe the smile off of my face. It just happens the moment the show starts. I wish it had done better, so we could have gotten a sit-down production. But, what are ya gonna do?

Good luck in Tokyo guys!!!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

I just bought my ticket for closing night. . I used the "Happy" code and it was only $55 with fees. . If I would have known that I wouldn't have been messing around with HotTix's craptastic seats all of this time.

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

okay off-topic. but seriously, i am tired of ticketmaster and their fees. they sometimes add up to $20 in fees! i try to avoid ordering online if at all possible now..sorry. haha just had to share.

i wish i were going closing night! it'll probably be exhilerating!

re: Xanadu/Fanadu love thread!

...you mean ticketBASTARD?? haha I totally stole that from someone on this board. I can't WAIT for closing night, too! I may or may not be bringing Sonny the bear with me.... :) hehe. I love (you know who's) brilliant idea of taking pictures of them in the cut-out in the lobby!
