Well, this show sounds like it is a piece of **** to me.

Ah, Hot Feet.

Never saw anyone defending THAT during previews.

re: Xanadu First Preview

Munk- What show did you have to kick off your list to make room for XANADU?

Don't forget about Candida, Yankee.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

re: Xanadu First Preview

I was just about to say that Wizard. How could ANYONE forget Candida? Oy. That show was a real mess. I still think Times They Are A'Changin and Tarzan are worse though. At least the dancers in Hot Feet could move well.

re: Xanadu First Preview

Xanadu is worse than Brooklyn?! Can't believe that until I see this. Even with "Raven," Brooklyn was still one of the most disastrous things I've seen.
#134

re: Xanadu First Preview

Munk, what about your strong distaste for Deuce?
#136

re: Xanadu First Preview

LOL, I believe "Raven" is that "Story of Lucy and Jessie"/"There Are Worse Things I Could Do"-wannabe number from BROOKLYN that C for Company enjoys. Munk posted the lyrics in an old threat, I can't remember which though.

re: Xanadu First Preview

Hah, Ray knows of this embarrassing pleasure of mine. I can already tell that I'm sure to find some redeeming part of Xanadu to love when I make a visit to the Helen Hayes, just like I did with BKLYN. I have this sometimes unfortunate ability of finding something to enjoy in almost any terrible show just so I can say it was somewhat worth seeing.

re: Xanadu First Preview

As much as people are trashing this already, I want to see it badly.

"1. Hot Feet
2. Tarzan
3. Ring of Fire
4. Good Vibrations
5. Xanadu
6. Brooklyn
7. The Times They Are A-Changin'
8. Lestat
9. The Woman in White
10. Dracula"

I actually liked Brooklyn...I never liked Raven, just Superlover.

re: Xanadu First Preview

Thanks for giving us some insight to the show. One thing that rubs me the wrong way: - wouldn't it benefit from CONSTRUCTIVE criticism instead of DESTRUCTIVE? It is in previews after all.

I'm seeing it Sunday, May 27 and I can't wait. It's going to have some rough spots (Legally Blonde had some strange technical difficulty when I saw it in previews) but I'm going to support the production, just because its not easy putting on a show these days.

re: Xanadu First Preview

I saw Xanadu tonight--it's second preview. Since watching the press rehearsal video online, I have been wanting to see it--because I thought it might be awful... BUT, I really, really liked it. I sat in onstage seating, and even though I could not always see faces or whatever, it was still fun. I went into the show knowing that it was going to be super-cheesy, and it is definitely that; however, I had a fun time, and that's what matters the most. The show was almost sold out, and mostly, the audience seemed to love it. I'd see it again after previews, definitely.

re: Xanadu First Preview

Heybeenfood: I should have specified, I'm sorry - that's just a list of MUSICALS.

I'd definitely have to break out DEUCE, OLDEST LIVING CONFEDERATE WIDOW, ENCHANTED APRIL, and even the THE ODD COUPLE revival, to be sure.

C for Company, it's okay, I love IN MY LIFE so I can't really talk re: Xanadu First Preview

I think In My Life fell into the "so bad, it's good" category.

Why is it that, when a show that is pre-doomed starts previews, statements like this start to appear everywhere?

I can't wait for the ones where they CAN TELL YOU how hard the cast worked on the show, therefore you must be nice to everything related to it.

Imagine Brantley going "It was great! Well, not really, but I know it's not easy to put on a show these days" :P

Any more second preview reactions?
Can't wait to see this show for some reason...I refuse to think any show with Mary Testa could be THAT bad...or maybe I'm just in denial.

re: Xanadu First Preview

I found it to be an adorable show full of energy and well paced. The 2nd preview had a few rocky moments but they'll work those out. Stop the negativity. this cast is so appealing the show is simply a fun show. The audience loved it and the cast was very gracious afterwards. HIGHLY recommended!. I say buy a ticket and then make your judgement... I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you had... Very enjoyable! Would definitely reccommend and go again!

Oh, yes "the night I attended the audience loved it" - another one of my personal favorites. Of course you took a poll of every single member who was under oath and swore their unconditional love to the show.

And I must say I have nothing against Xanadu, but I LOVE the defensive reactions to any bad review (and even more the ones that have a hint of shill.)
If it's so good, then post it. But stop defending the show from those who hated it.
You never read posts going the other way do you?

Something like:"Stop being so positive, this show must be panned. The night I went every single member hated it and booed and I know for a fact that the cast are a bunch of lazy bums who didn't put any effort into it - so really stop your fair-postive-queen cheery attitude, so typical of these boards"
