So im going over labor day to NY and want to see Xanadu. I dont know the show extremly well but like what I have heard from the score. I know that sitting on stage is very differnt from the audience. Will sitting onstage not be as good if i dont really know the show? Also does Kerry Butler come out to the stage door during saturday matinees? I really want to meet her and if she usually doesnt come out I would see the show thursday night instead. Thanks in advance.
Since it is your first time at the show, sit in the orchestra. Not sure about whether Kerry Butler comes out after matinees.
I sat on the stage the first, and only time I saw the show. We were placed, conveniently, directly in the back. The person who I saw it with found it very difficult to follow along. I enjoyed the show, but I would rather have seen it from the audience first.
If you want a guarantee to meet Kerry, I suggest the Thursday evening performance. Most performers don't leave the theatre (or make stage door pop-outs) after a matinee performance.
I saw it onstage too, and I wish I hadn't.

the stage feels like you're in a DVD extra somehow - its cool - you almost are a behind the scenes participant. But there's nothing like seeing it from the orch.
But I've only seen it twice...once each

Kerry and Cheyenne and a few others usually come out after matinees. If you want to be absolutely positive that you'll meet Kerry though, then go for the Thursday.
Well the playbill discount code is not for performances through august (obviously since its so far away but me being crazy am buying tix now). Are there usually discount codes during the summer? and when would a new one go up do you think?
Usually the summer discounts come out after the Tony Awards

kerry and everyone (except jackie) came out after the saturday matinee i saw a couple months ago!
saw it from the orch and loved it. Though, I did envy the interaction castmembers had with the audience.
Though i do love kerry and would love to see it twice i figured out the perfect schedule. Im gonna see it thursday night though i havent decided which tickets im gonna buy. If theres a discount code this summer ill sit in the orch. other wise im sitting on stage cuz im on budget. I found a way that i can see 6 shows in 4 days and im gonna do that cuz i dont know when Ill be able to go back to NY. Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to answer my questions.
My friend GreekMusicalFan was here for 2 weeks & saw "Xanadu" from the audience on this very 1st day. He loved it so much that he also got tix for on stage for his very last day. I ended up joining him & his buddy
It was a perfect way to start & end a vacation.
I would wait for a discount. Unless the show gets some major Tony nominations I have a feeling it may not make it till August. The show's only doing a bit over 50% now
PS: I've been to the show 21 times now. Kerry was off one time but Patti Murin was wonderful. I'm pretty sure Kerry came out every single time, even on matinee days.
as of now id wait on buying the ticket. It would probably be my last one to buy. However, with the tourist season this summer and the good chance it will be nominated for quite a few (including best musical) and a very good chance winning best book i think it will at least last till august. However the fall would be another story I would think.
I've only seen the show from onstage (twice) and I loved it.
From your lips to God's ears. I think "Xanadu" should play as long as "Cats"... now & forever - lol.
well as you feel about xanadu I feel about spring awakening but thats besides the point. I feel though besides lasting tourist season as long as Kerry and/or Cheyenne stay in the show it should continue to run. I feel that if kerry gets nominated which she probably will, shell extend her contract. And you worried about 50% houses as of now but its a very tourist friendly marketable show. I think this will run longer than Passing strange and the grosses are kinda similair.
