Yet even more Hairspray

I saw this listed today on the TKTS website,

Hairspray A - - 19:30 £22.50 £25.50**

Michael Ball is not scheduled to be on holiday, is this a mistake? If not I am going to be down there 8 times a week!

re: Yet even more Hairspray

The two ** reads that they are selling full price £22.50 tickets with a £3 booking fee. Phantom don't forget they act as a full price ticket agent now. The £22.50 seats they are selling on behalf of the theatre maybe the only price available tonight. If any higher seats are available and they are few and far between, the box office never or rarely lets agents sell them.
It's a Tue night, Michael Ball is on and its busy.

I think that is a bit sneaky, selling cheap tickets on TKTS (I mean ones that are cheap anyway, like the balcony).
on TKTS it is generally half price tickets, making them about £30. If there are £30 seats with a fee on top then people will get disappointed I think.

OK
Listen
Forget the name TKTS for now and try to remember that they are now a full price ticket agent also- that means full price tickets in the middle of the West End without having to go to each box office.
ALSO, while your there , check out the half price offers.
See it as 2 shops in one!
Its not that hard to work out!

re: Yet even more Hairspray

I don't have a problem with them selling full price tickets, £60 ticket for hairspray is obviously full price.
A £30 ticket for hairspray seems like a half price ticket rather than a poorer full price ticket if you are used to the 'old' sales model.

re: Yet even more Hairspray

I have never known the cheapest tickets to be sold at the kiosk at full price! So I can see turquoisefish point here.

re: Yet even more Hairspray

ITS NEW POLICY IS THAT ITS A TICKET AGENT TOO!
Aaaaaarrrrrrgh!

re: Yet even more Hairspray

Agree with you Mama, just a surprise to see tkts or should I say agency selling the cheapest tickets.

re: Yet even more Hairspray

A 'real' agency has an allocation from the full price range in the house. These are not always available tho so you will most likely see just the top price advertised. The TKTS booth has a live link to the theatres it sells tickets for and if you were to ask for different prices they may possibly be able to sell them to you. It all depends on the box office manager who monitors all ticket agents very closely.

I see Hairspray is available for half price from tickets this week, with Michael Ball too!

From michaelball.co.uk: "He will be taking holiday between 9-16 March, returning on Tuesday 17 March."

I've got a feeling that after the July cast change, unless they get a BIG star, we will be seeing a lot more of this show at TKTS.

"I did not think he was on holiday this week?"

Michael is off this week to allow him time to do some promtion for the new album, which was released on the 9th. He was on the Alan Tichmarsh show yesterday afternoon being interviewed and singing 'Impossible Dream'. He was talking about the new album and the tour later this year. When asked about leaving 'Hairspray' He said that it will break his heart to leave and he had to put something else in the diary or else they'd have never have got him out there. lol!!

I still cant quite believe I've bought tickets for his tour.

The show will have had a good 18months with minimal discounts by the time he leaves so about time it was on tkts more often :)

re: Yet even more Hairspray

that's something I don't get with the TKTS over there is how they do sell tickets at full price PLUS their fee... I am going to see Hairspray next weekend and I'm going directly to the box office (unless the tube ride is more than #3...)
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

All agents will charge you a fee- a lot more than what they charge at TKTS!

It should be great by all accounts, MB said that he is taking a bigger orchestra out with him this time and having several guests from musical theatre each night. To enable him to sing more varied set pieces from musicals. This format has worked well in the past for open air summer concerts and the Royal Opera House christmas concert a few years ago. It should work well on tour.

Why?
His concerts are pretty fantastic, you get a bloody big orchestra, stunning backing singers and a full nights entertainment.
Enjoy it, there ain't many like him left who go out and almost kill themselves on tour!
