This is a show with a built in audience...people know the name...they've seen the Oscar winning movie....it could sell without great reviews (it will get good reviews, but not raves).
How long do you see it running?
I'd give it 2 years.
Thankfully, A Chorus Line was not an Oscar-winning movie. It might have won a few Razzies, though.

The movie was pretty terrible. I wonder if anyone will every try to redo it. (I hope they redo the RENT movie down the line somewhere). I'd say the revival will run for maybe two-three years if it gets some good reviews and some Tonys and keeps up the advertising. I'm sure it will do great on tour.
I give it one to two years. It would be nice to see it run for a long time, but I don't think it will. I hope I am wrong. And I agree, the movie was terrible.
I liked the movie. The play too. It'll run for as long as seats continue to be filled.... Doesn't look like a lot of overhead with this show.
hopefully long enough that it will make a good enough profit for them to lower the ticket prices so i can afford to see it!
I think it will run for 3-4 seasons.
I'll second 2 seasons.

2-3.
I agree - two seasons. Maybe another half a season on top of that, due to low production costs, but we'll see.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes
About 800 or so performances.
2-3 years, maybe more if the OBRC and some really good replacements hang around/are found
Hopefully they will tape the show and release it on video - like they did with Sunday in the Park and Sweeney Todd. If there ever was show that needs capturing live on stage with the original choreography, this is it.

they only vide tape Sondheim musicals...duhhhhhhhhh
2-4 seasons.
And I will say this again, I love the movie. It was very different than the stage show, but it was still good for a enterataining movie.
The show is better though, hands down. Just to get that clear.
*not looking for a fight*
Why does everyone think it wont last that long?
and I agree... when it goes off Bway again- they should release a dvd.
They never will.
It could last longer! But most people want to go see modern musical nowadays. (like Wicked, Jersey Boys, and such) They aren't interested in seeing a period piece. Especially since a lot of theatre-goers are getting younger. I know of a LOT of people who have never even HEARD of A CHORUS LINE. Also, the original show was a classic and this revival isn't leaving the same impact as it did thirty years ago.
That's just my opinion on why it probably won't do so well.
If they released a DVD of A CHORUS LINE, I would be in H-E-A-V-E-N.
munkustrap178 is right, it will never be released on DVD, the Michael Bennett estate wouldn't allow it.
I don't think it's a matter of what people want to see, I just think it's a matter of quality.
I haven't seen the show yet, but I have heard from literally everyone that it's a carbon copy of the original with less than stellar performances. I can't imagine it getting strong reviews, and their ticket prices are obscene.
I think that's what will ultimately kill it in a year or so.
Maybe it'll just start out really strong and then start to fade away over the next year or so.
