Toronto made me feel Aladdin was going to close in 3 months made me think the musical was crap and so did this board. Can someone explain to me why everyone thought this will close.

1. They did it to piss you off.
2. It will close. Aside from Phantom, EVERYTHING will close.
3. Will this be a success? Way too early to know for sure.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Simon Damon, it says you've been here since 26 Feb 14. If that is true (my stats have been reset several times), then you've learned that the opinions here are wide and often unreliable as a reflection of one's own tastes rather quickly. Consider yourself lucky.

When I became obsessed with this board, I'd often arrive at shows with an expectation based on what I read here. After many disappointments and an equal number of "pleasant surprises" I have learned what you are learning now: to each his/her own.

If you stick around long enough, you'll find an affinity to certain posters who share likeminded tastes. Even then you might be surprised at how important it is to remain open minded when going to the theater.

You guys are seriously bitchy on here and need to learn some manners! Yes Simon's punctuation isn't great, but don't belittle him for it!! Simon, take everything that you read on here with a pintch of salt. I'm an industry insider and professionals don't act as nasty as you guys.....

JustJakUK, there is a lot of "nasty" here. Yet again, I highly recommend the "ignore" feature. I used to let some of the negativity hurt my feelings. Since "ignore" and the decision to just not read those posters who I find rude, being here is infinitely more fun.

Simon Damon, I hope that the punctuation remarks don't hinder your willingness to post. Your ideas are just as welcome as the next poster.

As for proper punctuation... It helps in coming off here as articulate. However, it is only one tool and should never be used to stifle one's voice. Type away, I, and I suspect many others, are reading.

First, you have to remember it was out of town tryout and things probably have changed since it was in Toronto. Like others have said, people on this board will probably have different opinions then you regarding any show. From the reviews I have read, it seems generally positive and with it being a "Disney" show I think it will probably last awhile. (maybe 2-3 yrs).

Online reviews are the breeding ground for the extremes. If you loved something, you write a review. If you hated it, you write a review. People who enjoyed it or thought it could be a bit better... they just go home and get on with their lives. So, trying to read the tea leaves between the one- and five-star reviews is a risky proposition.

Basing opinions entirely on out of town tryouts and preview reviews is never going to be foolproof.

I always liked the movie Aladdin, bought a discounted ticket when they first went on sale, and am looking to going tomorrow. I didn't really pay attention to what people said here, and still haven't. I only saw this since it wasn't in the Aladdin threads that I'm ignoring until tomorrow night...

It could get good reviews, it could play a long time, and you could STILL think it is crap.

Toronto is the third great theater city: 1 and 2) New York and London; 3) Toronto. As a New Yorker who loves Toronto (I have been many times over many years), I honor Toronto as the theater city it is and understand why it is often used as a try-out city.

It is my hope that the original poster didn't mean any offense to Toronto or Torontonians. I think the issue was out of town try outs combined with the power of the Internet and social media to misinform the process.
