I noticed on the NY Times website that Young Frankstein isn't reporting their grosses. I don't generally pay attention to grosses. Is it normal for a show to do this? What exactly does it mean?
I do believe that somewhere before the Broadway run they announced they weren't going to be announcing weekly grosses.

I don't think it means anything. I don't think it's very common either. I just know that Young Frankenstein chose not to report the grosses.
Well the performance I went to (Jan 9 evening show) was not sold out. The back few rows of both sides were empty. I was surprised that with all the hype it wasn't selling out.
Only a couple of shows are complete sell outs every week, sometimes just one (the other green one) and sometimes none, so that doesn't mean it's not making a lot of money, I'm sure it is.
either way YF is filling more seats than the pirate queen
I'm looking forward to seeing this in July.

they hyped the show very well and they had a huge advance ...so when thats done it will be on tkts ,,,my guess, April it will be there occasionally, its selling very poorly since the reviews came out. The webssite tixx.com has it almost every week at 1/2 price but you have to buy the tickets online
I believe it's called and enormous schwanzstucker, not a huge advance.
The producer were probably afraid that after the phnomenal grosses of The Produders in its early days, anything less would look...well, lesser. And they were not to be proven wrong: Check almost any day and there are always plenty of seats available. They can try to hide it as much as possible but YF is not a monster hit, nor is it likely to recoup.

Why would people pay $451 for a seat when there are many others available for far less? Do New Yorkers just like to brag about how much money they waste?

Based on it's estimated grosses, I read that it's on track to recoup around March. It's easy to do when there was a $30+ Million advance and you're grossing $1.6 Million a week.
I think it's out of towners who pay lots of money for seats, those who have a limited amount of time here. Most people who live in the area know how to get cheap seats (or at least regular priced seats) and aren't usually worried about when they go.
