Your Favorite Liza Video

Mine? This one: "Shine On, Harvest Moon," from the powerhouse New Orleans concert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJXS4MnkA-U

I first saw her sing this song in 1968 or so, on a Johnny Carson Show. I was only 12 at the time, but already obsessed with Judy and Liza. I stayed up with a cassette recorder (remember those?) glued to the television set in my bedroom, poised to press "Record" as soon as she started singing. I had that cassette tape all through high school and college, until the tape snapped and I must have thrown it out.

But two years after that, in 1970, when I was 14, my parents took my sister and me to the Concord Hotel in the Catskills. Liza was the Saturday-night entertainment, and this was my second favorite song that night.

I still have my laserdisc player, and I still play this disc. Now I have the laserdisc hooked up so I can make video files from it. I should digitize the whole concert.

PJ.. there are two versions ( I think ) of this show. One that aired on HBO. And the other the one on Laser. I also still have my player.. but it is so noisy. I wish she would also release the London one. And isn't that Lorna with her backstage?

This was one of the first laserdiscs I transferred onto DVD many years ago.

This and Ken Russell's Director's Cut of THE BOYFRIEND.

Yes, it was during one of the times when they were getting along really well.

I'm a Pet Shop Boys fan so admit I'm a sucker for Results, the album they did for her. The remastered edition with a DVD is glorious.

But does anything really beat the combo of Liza, the PSBoys fave composer Sondheim, Losing My Mind, and a drag queen??

That was such fun, PJ! But I have to make myself stop because I started clicking on every video of Judy's, and I realized that I could spend ALL night watching her on YouTube. (And I have something VERY important to do tomorrow, so i must get some sleep!)

PJ, any idea how Liza and Lorna are getting along these days?

Dont' Drop Bombs was a weird choice for single--it's not one of the better tracks on that ace album but I love how campy the video is and how she transforms from batter wife Liza to teRIIIfic Liza re: Your Favorite Liza Video

Liza and her bf Tracy Everitt showing her mom their Stem Heat routine for Xmas... or something. I think the choreography is pretty awful but Judy wants to put it in her show! Go figure...

yeah he quotes with a link to his school under that youtube. Good for him--he was definetly cute. And it's nice to see Liza didn't always date gay men. I may have been too hard on Steam Heat, it's hard enough to rechoreograph an iconic number like that, but...

re: Your Favorite Liza Video

That Back in Business is great, but luckily they didn't film her take on Water Under the Bridge. a fave Sondheim song of mine that she ruins (and it's on the new box set no less). A friend saw her sing it at Carnegie and got to ask her about it and she actually said "oh that tuneless drivel? how depressing!" so I guess she didn't get it...

re: Your Favorite Liza Video

I don't believe that story. People make up a lot of things they'd like Liza to have said.

She is much too much a creature of show business to EVER bad-mouth a song, let alone a Sondheim song.

She is much more likely to have lied through her teeth and said, "It's terrrrrific!"--even if she secretly hated it.

But Liza would never call it drivel or depressing.
