Phoebe Strole from Spring Awakening might make a good Kim. She's 24 but looks young for her age, and she's playing a 14 year old now and Kim is supposed to be 15, so it could work. I know this is probably a long shot, but I really hope for the revival they would give Hugo Peabody a song, I really like that role for some reason, my friend played him to perfection at my high school production. I also think Eden Espinosa would make a fabulous Rosie, she's not that young for the role, she's in her late 20s isn't she? Not that much of a stretch.

Bianca Marroquin was suggested for Rose in a previous thread, a casting idea I find to be absolutely fantastic.
I saw the Roundabout workshop this past summer...August to be exact and that cast was fabulous! This is a wonderful possibility.
Gavin Lee as Albert! He's just great!
Who was in the Roundabout workshop?
Chita Rivera was a mere 27 when she first played Rosie.
And Dick Van Dyke was 36.
And Susan Watson played Kim (15) at age 22.

Gavin Lee was Albert, Stephanie Block was Rosie, and Matt Doyle was Hugo...I'm not too sure about the rest of the cast though.
Well, Block will probably be busy with 9 to 5. Lee is to obvious of a choice. He's already playing Dick Van Dyke on Broadway...

I still like the idea of Catherine Zeta-Jones as Rosie. Bobby, are you still going with that she's too big of a girl.....wrong body type...she was slim and trim in CHICAGO.
I kind of hope they keep Kathleen Marshall away from this. She needs some "me time."
For Kim, what about Brittany Snow? She's not the greatest singer in the world, but I think she could pull it off very nicely. And, she's a name.
Lee and Borle would both be outstanding Alberts.
I don't hate the idea of Espinoza as Rosie, and I don't think she's too young.
I think Hoffman would be outrageously good as Mae and stop the show cold with "A Mother Doesn't Matter Anymore."
There's just something about Jones that is too beautiful for Rosie. She always seems stocky to me, but perhapts, I'm on crack.
Kathleen Marshall def needs some me time to think about what she'ss done! I always seem to enjoy 1 dance in each of her shows and the rest of the production choices usually bore me with her. LOVED her Wonderful Town opening. Loved her Hernando's Hideaway. That's about it.

Bobby, you are right on that........CZJ is an absolutely stunning woman...Never thought of her as stocky though.
LOVE your cast, Bobby! Andy Karl would make a great Conrad!

Kim's not that difficult of a role to sing, I think Brittany Snow could do it, as long as she had more training, but I can easily see her as Kim. Hayden Panetierre from Heroes would be a great Kim as well, and she's a name, although I don't really think the girl cast as Kim should be a huge star.
I think so too Kelly2. Jackson is such an obvious choice. I think Karl would be a funnier, better sung Conrad. And it's time to get him out of the chorus!

Eric McCormack as Albert
Janine LaManna as Rosie
Debra Monk as Mae (if Curtains closes)
Richard Kind as Mr. McAfee
Janine LaManna? Nooooooooo! I don't think she has the natural charm needed for Rosie. She has come off a bit cold in everything I've seen her in.
Richard Kind is inspired casting.

Laura Osnes would be a perfect Kim.
I'd love to see Harvey Fierstein take on Mr. MacAfee. If Paul Lynde could do it...
Perhaps Jayne Houdyshell as Mae.
David Hyde Pierce as Albert, please.
I think Janine would be perfect for Rose. She is a true triple threat.
And Rosie should be rather cold, shouldn't she? Though she should be able to portray she has a warm and vulnerable inside.
Regarding Eden Espinosa...is she a trained dancer?

Rosie should be cold with Albert, but not icy, sea-bitch cold like LaManna leans to in a majority of her work (REMEMBER: She was cast in Sweet Charity because she wasn't a Knock-Out in the role, therefore making Applegate look better. That's why Diaz was fired-She was too good).
The audience needs to love Rosie. She's the heart of the show.
REMEMBER: She was cast in Sweet Charity because she wasn't a Knock-Out in the role, therefore making Applegate look better. That's why Diaz was fired-She was too good).
- That was a rumor, if I remember correctly. It was also said Natascia and the other girl looked way too young with Applegate, Nickie and Helena should have a motherly relationship to Charity. I don't think we'll ever really know the truth of their firing. It was also said the original girls were very difficult backstage.
Anyway, Natascia still hasn't had a real major leading or supporting role on Broadway. Whereas Janine has.
It wasn't a rumor. I know several people in the production. LaManna was being rehearsed while Diaz performed without notice. She walked off the stage and got her pink slip. She was told they were "going in a different direction" but it is widely known that LaManna was cast because she didn't steal any moments from Applegate.
Diaz is around the same age as LaManna.
Helen Gallagher and Gwen Verdon were both great in the original. Remember, these are the Weissler's and Walter Bobby. They've been making these kinds of calls for years.
And I don't think LaManna getting more Broadway work than Diaz holds much water. Diaz has had great success in NYC (Jacques Brel, Bright Lights Big City, and Saturday Night) and L.A (Tick, tick...boom!), as well as triumphs in West Side Story in several productions, Pippin at PaperMill and Carnival at Washington D.C.
If you would have seen Diaz in the role, I guarantee you'd find LaManna the lesser. Diaz tore up that stage.
LaManna is a curiousity to me, along the same lines a Karen Ziemba. Fine dancer, okay singer, but ZERO X-factor.
