wicked-i loved the overture before i liked any of the songs
phantom and sweeney todd are both really good ones too
they're the kind of overtures that you listen to on a cast recording opposed to skipping to the first vocal one
Jesus Christ Superstars' guitars are amazing on their overture. i choose that one.

CANDIDE
Unappreciated: The original HOW TO SUCCEED overture, with those jazzy saxophones and wailing trumpets.
The revival of DAMN YANKEES - starting witht he end of the National Anthem, the umpire's "Play ball!" and the sounds of the crack of the bat and the cheering crowd throughout. Bonus: the conductor putting his baton between his teeth like a rose, and playing the castanets during the "Whatever Lola Wants" section.
