Perhaps the most thrilling overture to play and/or listen to is the INCREDIBLE overture for MACK AND MABEL. :) It's probably the best thing about the entire show!

I submit the overture to "Dear World" for consideration!

Did anybody mention Sweet Charity's overture? I am deeply in love with it!

Defentially The Producers overture. When I heard it on the CD for the first time, I was amazed.
He's a faker, and you've been taken in by his con. And in doing so, you are enabling him. He is doing more damage to aspergers than papa's words ever could. -Chane/Liverpool on me having asperger syndrome.

The first 2 notes of Les Mis always give me goosebumps
The lights go down, and I sit there smiling, waiting for those 2 notes

Jesus Christ Superstar (revival & 1994 London productions)
Love how it integrates all the major themes/melodies of the show and puts you right into Heaven on their Minds.

I agree with TheActr97J about DEAR WORLD - it's a great overture
A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
LI'L ABNER
FOLLIES
NO, NO, NANETTE
CRAZY FOR YOU
SWEEET CHARITY (Original Ralph Burns Orchestrations)
MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG
DUDE: THE HIGHWAY LIFE
GYPSY is the natural favorite on this board, as well it should be
THE ROTHSCHILDS
SHE LOVES ME Prelude
CANDIDE (duh)
And it's not an overture, but if you've ever heard the Curtain Call/Exit Music from CARRIE on Broadway...I have a weak spot for it, in all it's 1988 glory, terribly cheesy, as it sounds like it's from a mid-80's award ceremony, but it certainly makes Carrie sound like a hit.

CANDIDE
ON THE 20TH CENTURY
FUNNY GIRL
SOUTH PACIFIC
MACK & MABEL (OK, it's really the entr'acted, I know, but it's damn good!)
