"I am not saying he won't do a good job, because he might; but the fangirls are going to flock to Equus really fast to see him get naked."

I'M saying he won't do a good job. He can sing decently enough, but the boy can't act for s**t. He's all about sweeping broadstrokes, bulging eyes, and overexaggerated facial expressions.

Also, wouldn't it be distracting to make the audience wonder throughout the play where Alan Strang got ahold of steroids?

I saw Zac Efron in the premiere of Me and Orson Welles at the Toronto Film Festival. He's pretty bland in it, if not embarassing. He plays a teenage wannabe-actor who falls ass-backwards into Orson Welles' production of Julius Caesar. The movie's the latest by Richard Linklater. The guy who plays Welles (Christian McKay... apparently he did a one-man show as Welles in NY?) is amazing. Yeah, Efron's pretty much wallpaper in it, but in the Q and A he did mention how happy he was to be given a 'serious' role 'at last'.

From WENN... Efron denies he was ever approached and says he isn't interested in stage-work right now anyway.

Anyone who is is even a casual observer of Broadway news would know immediately that it isn't true. The Broadhurst's next tennant was announce before Equus even strated previews, and the show isn't the huge box office bonanza the producers hoped it would be (and conversely, All My Sons is seeling out nightly despite a pitiful advance).
