Please let this not come to fruition..
Efron is incredibly un-talented unlike Radcliffe who made a very admirable debut in the show.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 5:27pmWell if they want it to stay open they may as well cast Oprah in it. I mean Efron is a good choice to sell tickets but a terrible choice for the role. He's not very talented. But it was meant to be a limited run and if I'm not mistaken wasn't something else supposed to go into the Broadhurst once it ended...?

"Please let this not come to fruition.."
What a ridiculous thing to say, because it effects your life so much, right? He actually is talented. He made a Lifetime movie with Mary-Louise Parker and Aiden Quinn when he was younger called "Miracle Run". He portrayed an autistic kid who learns to long distance run. He did a terrific job in it.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 5:43pmOh, c'mon. There's only one reason anyone would go see Zac Effron in Equus and it has nothing to do with talent...

Talent aside (I've only ever seen Efron in the Hairspray movie and he was fine in that), I had the misfortune to sit next to some squealing Daniel Radcliffe fangirls when I saw Equus, I can only imagine how much worse the Zac Efron ones would be.
edited because while Radcliffe has two Fs, Efron apparently doesn't.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 5:50pmI am not saying he won't do a good job, because he might; but the fangirls are going to flock to Equus really fast to see him get naked.

And because money makes the world go 'round, that's the reason something like this could happen.

Did you even read the article? The Sun said he said "it's been mentioned". He's a popular young actor, of course SOMEONE would have mentioned it to him. But even so, it's the SUN. Only half a step up from the Mirror, that claimed he'd be going into 'Joseph...' in the West End, and that turned out more on the "filthy lie" side of things in the end an' all.
Chalk this one up as "hilarious rumour that definitely won't come true", and sit yourselves down with some nice cups of tea.

Posted: 10/10/08 at 6:05pmEven though it's really unlikely to happen, as Weez pointed out, count me among the people not horrified by the idea of Zac Efron doing something like this. Forget the fangirls: they really don't matter in the long run. I think Zac actually has real potential and it's unfortunate that his biggest success so far is a laughable TV movie. Like with Daniel Radcliffe, I'd like Zac Efron to challenge himself and see what he can do :)

It's a quarter past 11 in the pm over here in the UK. I've spent the past week staying up until 2/3/4 in the morning watching 'Oz', and now I've finished, I don't know what to do with myself. Talk rubbish here, I suppose.
What's this 'Me & Orson Welles' film Zac's been doing? The screenshots have got me interested, but I've no idea what it actually is. Word on the street, y'all?

NONONONONONONONONONONO
Putting Efron in this part requires three very dangerous assumptions- ones we're not ready to make about Zac Efron:
1. He can successfully both learn and use a British accent.
2. He can act with emotional depth and create a real character.
3. He can act AT ALL.
I mean, if there is a worse actor on this planet, I haven't found him.

Efron really hasn't gotten something meaty to dive into yet, so who knows if he can handle the role.
But I'm seconding the Jamie Bell suggestion. Great idea!

This rumor was laughably made up by The Sun, a paper notorious for doing such a thing.
Both Radcliffe and Griffiths are contracted through February 4th, the date at which the show must close.
MARY STUART already has The Broadhurst booked following EQUUS, so any speculation about any star replacements going in is moot as there won't be any show for them to replace into.
This was 100% a star attraction, and even at that isn't setting the box office on fire. The odds of it moving to another theater with a different cast are non-existent.
