I've noticed the last couple of episodes of Theatre Talk have shown the archival recording from TOFT of the 1977 revival FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Now, I thought TOFT didn't allow their films to come out of the library, yet here they are popping up on TV (they've also shown a clip of SWEENE TODD with Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou). Now I wonder, what'll be next?

Posted: 5/26/18 at 5:35pmI missed seeing Zero Mostel in the 1976 LA production by one night and greatly regretted it. There is very little live footage (that I'm aware of) of him in this role. Thank you for sharing this!

I feel like there's a joke I could make here referencing Topol's son, but I got nothing.

Zero and Topol just had it. No one else has come close.

Posted: 5/26/18 at 11:49pmTOFT footage can be licensed out. It’s a bitch of a process to do so and some shows are much more difficult, but it’s very possible. They have restrictions on how much and what it can be used for but for shows like Theater Talk, I can imagine it’s not very difficult.

Well that's good. I thought the films couldn't leave the library building, go figure... And do they still have that clause that you can only see a film once there?
Also, notice how the film seems damaged at the splice in "Tradition". I hope it's just a coincidence and not all the films are in those conditions.

I was wondering the same thing. You can only see a video once? Do they really keep the names of every patron who watches a video and the title they watched? I suppose in this day and age of computer data bases it is not that hard to do, I am just not sure what their rationale is.
