I was reading a review of the album and someone mentioned that Bernadette Peters messes up in the song 'There won't be trumpets'. Can anyone tell me how she messed up in that song ?

Posted: 7/19/09 at 1:45amI think she had to re-dub parts of it in the studio. I am not sure how she messed it up.

She doesn't mess up on the recording since she went back to re-record the flubbed lyrics. She messed up during the actual performance. I believe she forgot the lyrics and basically repeated the first verse instead of singing the second verse. I can't remember exactly at what point it was though.

Posted: 7/19/09 at 2:00amYeah, it seemed to be one of the first "in concert" performances of a musical and didn't get a great deal of rehearsal. Madeline Kahn completely missed an entrance and had to ask the orchestra to stop and start over. Of course that was easily edited out of the recording. Still so glad to have the CD.

Posted: 7/19/09 at 2:01amIm listening to the recording now, everone in the cast sounds great. Bernadette sounds really good in all her songs. I don't really like the voice of Madeline Kahn. I guess im just use to listening to Angela Lansbury on the OBC recording.

Posted: 7/19/09 at 2:26amI agree that Bernadette is excellent and that I miss Lansbury most from the OBC :P.

Kahn actually made multiple mistakes, she lost the lyrics at different points too, if I remember correctly.
Didn't Peters made a mistake in another song? I wanna say she flubbed "See What It Gets You."

An excellent quality video exists of the 'closed-circuit broadcast' of this one-night-only concert. I'm sure many can confirm these faux pas that took place since the video is of the entire April 8, 1995 concert as it was happening.

Bernadette was simply ON FIRE this night. Thank GOD for that recording!
"See What It Gets You" is the best Bernadette has ever been!

Posted: 7/19/09 at 4:47pmMadeline Kahn is not a singer. She is an actress. More importantly, she is an expert comedienne. Listening to her sing "There's Always A Woman" is pure gold because she knows how to ACT the song. So maybe she's not Lansbury, but she's excellent in her own way.
