In defense of Idina, she and Taye had death threats towards the end of her run. I would exit stage left as well if folks were talking that kind of **** to me. I understand that she is somewhat shy to begin with, but that after all this happened, it just got worse.

I tried to make out with Raul's chest hair and it kicked me. It did sign my Playbill though.

If I got done working and a bunch of teenagers were waiting outside my work, and it would cause me to stay at work much longer, then I would find an alternate exit.

They're people too..sometimes they can feel overwhelmed and having to sign with fans takes up a lot of time sometimes. I'm just glad to have seen stars in the show when they don't come out. And if you want like an autograph or something, maybe you can write to them? Don't get me wrong, I do get disappointed when stars I love dont come out the stage door, but I get over it somehow :). *Cries about the time she missed some stars* :)

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

Oh my gosh, Bobby his chest hair itself signed for you?!?! Man, it's such a diva. It won't EVER sign for me.

His chest hair was much nicer at the stage door for Taboo. It's pretty temperamental at Chitty, probably because it doesn't get to come out and play like it did during every other Raul show.

NO you haven't. But the real question is: DO you love my chest hair?

Of course I do, but not as much as I love Raul's. (ugh!)

I'm gonna shave his chest hair off this week, and tape it to my body.

Then you will love me in all my glory! (or Raul's glory)

Bobby and Em, that just made my day.

Back to the topic at hand, everything's mostly been said. All actors are required to do is perform, not come greet people and sign paper for a while. I do love it when the actors I'm particularly happy to see perform come out, but by no means do I, or should anyone, ever be suddenly mad at the person for it.
-Just felt like restating.-

Yeah, it's just certain days. If the stars have to get somewhere and don't have time to sign or are particularly tired they'll go out another way.

Also adding in that I've met Sherie at the stage door and she was more than willing to sign, take pictures, and just hang around there (and that same day, Norbert only signed a couple of things and took a couple of pictures because he had to go somewhere).

Once I saw Idina Menzel drive away from wicked in a huge black hummer....

as we are going on a tangent... can i ask a question on this thread? what has been your best and worst/embarrassing moment at a stage door/while asking for an autograph? DOES NOT HAVE TO BE AN ACTOR'S FAULT; could be anything.

This just came up last night, actually - I had nearly forgotten about it. The very first time I met Patrick Wilson, when he was still doing the revival of Oklahoma! My friend and I were waiting for him, and I went to give my dad the camera so he could take pictures for us. As I was reminding him how to use it, Patrick came outside. We were the only ones waiting, I think. My friend tapped me on the shoulder and finally got my attention. I whirled around to find Patrick just behind me. I looked up at him and just went "WOW." So. Embarassing. I've done way worse, but I thought I'd share that one.

I have been on tour myself with celebs and we always thought those fans at the stage door were FREAKS! wtf?

You just saw us in the show and that should be enough for you.

Enjoy the show and go home with a happy heart and a song in your head.

Actors are not required to meet you, talk to you, sign anything, be stalked..etc etc.

The job is to do the show...that's all. This country has a weird thing for its celebs and its too bad that scientists, teachers, firefighters are the ignored groups that deserve our attention not actors.

goodness

And if nobody fawned over you at all, you'd feel unloved and underappreciated.

Grass is always greener, ain't it?

It's a nice gesture though, but not every actor has to stop and sign and take photos, but there are actors who do come out and sign, i.e. David Hyde Pierce, John Lithgow, Norbert Leo Butz, Hank Azaria, Hunter Foster, Sutton Foster, Christian Borle, Jeff Goldblum, etc.

It applies to professional athletes as well, not all celebs have to give autographs. I was at a Trenton Thunder game awhile back and a couple of guys, heckled this one guy because he wouldn't give an autograph.

On that note, I think we're extremely lucky for just *how* close we can get to these people. Movie stars? Pro athletes? Psh. Certainly not nearly so accessible.

When did Idina and Tye get death threats and why?

Before Idina left Wicked. I think it was because of their inter-racial marriage.

As far as "Embarrasing Moments" go, when Terrence Mann left Lennon's stage door, I was struck dumb until my mom said something. I was like a combination of extremely shy, and wanting to talk as much as humanly possible to make him stay longer. That is the most starstruck I have every been. I think I may be and example of why actors are scared of fans (also I made him sign my left sandal I brought to the show, Hugh had signed the other when I saw BFO.)

Anyway I think the Taye/ Idina threats occured because of the whole interracial marriage thing, which is a perfectly good reason to not sign autographs.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

It was in December, 2004 . . .

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1296003/posts

Threatening letters critical of the interracial marriage between a Tony Award-winning white actress in the Broadway smash "Wicked" and Taye Diggs, a popular black film and TV actor, have sparked a NYPD probe and an increase in security at the famed Gershwin Theatre, sources said.

One of the letters "threatens bodily harm to Taye Diggs," according to a police source. That letter was received Wednesday by Jed Bernstein, president of the League of American Theaters and Producers, the industry's major trade group, with offices on West 47th Street.

Sources said that before Wednesday, two other handwritten letters were sent to the Gershwin Theatre, on West 51st Street, addressed to Diggs' wife, Idina Menzel, who stars there in "Wicked," a revisionist look at the "Wizard of Oz."

"The letters go on and on about their marriage," a second source says. "They say they're each a sellout to their race."

Marguerite, I can't tell you how many times I've gotten so shy that my mother has had to speak on my behalf. Now she's just like "I'm NOT waiting here with you if you aren't going to speak up and talk to them!" heh. I'm getting better though - by leaps and bounds.
