it just seems like a good "out", with the original leads closing the show. i dunno. im just glad i get to catch them while they are there.
hairspray is experiencing gross increase with the addition of the beaver. and i think the movie will help sales as well. id say this show has at least another year under its wigs.
The Beaver is only the beginning for Hairspray's increase in profit. The movie will give it a huge boost.
Ok.. it's been a while since I've frequented BWW, so this is a completely idiotic question, but Adam and Anthony are returning to RENT?! When?! Please feel free to make fun of me or point out my stupidity and tell me where this is posted in another thread.
It will be sad when Rent closes (which is easy to say it will be soon) as long as it's not before August 24th!! I have orchestra seats taht night to see ANthony and Adam!!!
it wont close while they are in the show. that would be rude.
brdwybound: your pms are off.
but this is for you -

Wow, I didn't realize my PMs were off, I turned them on. But thanks so much... I arrive in NYC a few days before Adam and Anthony come back to the show!
ACL is not going anywhere. They've cast some replacements. An alum from my college will be going in as Maggie sometime soon and Krysta Rodriguez who is an ensemble member in Spring Awakening just got cast in the show as a replacement also.
Cheers,

RENT may not have big numbers, but it's cheap to produce and it's not in danger of closing. It's also in a theatre no one wants, so it won't even be forced out. Spelling Bee is in a 700 seat house, the performers are working for minimum, so even when there are only 100 people in the audience it turns a profit. No danger there. A Chorus Line just fired (by means of not renewing contracts) half its cast. Do you really think they'll be paying these performers much more than minimum? It's running costs probable aren't too high that it can play to a half-empty Mezz. Hairspray, while not nearly as popular as it once was, is still doing well in a large house. It's attendance is increasing and will increase more once the movie opens, so it will be safe for at least another year.
I would think Xanadu might not make it. Mary Poppins doesn't strike me as doing as well as it should. Also, keep in mind, we do not know the running costs of a lot of these shows. Mary Poppins may in fact be running at 90% capacity, but that doesn't mean it's making money.

Hairspray is doing fine - and with the film it will see thru to 2008 I am certain. ACL - ain't going no where - Re-Couped, not expensive to run and is doing well with a London and Tour planned so that will be around for a while I will safely bet.
Spamalot - I don't know, seems to be dropping....2008 could see it go.
Grey Gardens I think towards the end of the year may close.
Rent I dont think will close - Its cheap to run!
I always think Chicago may go, but it never seems to!
I think Legally Blonde and Curtains will do well to survive the year. I hope Curtains lasts longer tho...
CURTAINS is doing surprisingly well, and I have a feeling that as long as Pierce remains in the show, and the producers keep the publicity pumping, it will continue to sell.
Pierce stayed with SPAMALOT for over a year and had something like two unscheduled absenses. He only left SPAMALOT to begin work on CURTAINS for its out of town tryout. He is committed, and if he held such a strong work ethic for SPAMALOT -- a leading role in a show for which he didn't even receive a Tony nomination -- I have no doubt he will remain with CURTAINS for a very, very long time -- probably until the end of its run.
I mean, you don't win a Tony Award every day. It's not as though he's just starting off (a la Sara Ramirez) and is hoping to break into Hollywood. He's done Hollywood, he's made his mark (and his million), and he is now committed to Broadway, and he obviously is doing it because he enjoys it. He is this show's only saving grace, as he is its only Tony Award win and it received poor reviews, and as long as he is in it and he continues to make public appearances and remind folks that the show exists, it should be around for some time.
"who knows... well see what happens when they leave with the grosses"
Hee broadwayboy! :) Thanks for the laugh. I'm picturing Adam and Anthony bundling up the grosses and running off with them.
Possibly "we'll see what happens with the grosses when they leave?"
*hugs*

Rent is a cheap show to run but still.. its grosses are very low, It will be a sad day when Rent closes on Broadway.
Grey Gardens will be gone in the next 6 months(sobs)
For some reason i also dont see curtains holding out past the end of the year either (i dont know why i think that i just do), I think LB will run in to next year.
Is it possible that DEUCE will be open until the end of August?
DEUCE will remain open until the end of its scheduled limited run. It's a super cheap show to run, and it won't close early.
ETA: It's scheduled to close on 8/19.

Drowsy may still have lift in it to survive until the end of the year/early 2008.
Think it needs to get a draw in at the Box Office.
Maybe By The End Of The Year:
Grey Gardens
Drowsy Chaperone
Rent
Les Miserables
Spelling Bee
By The End Of 08?:
Hairspray
Chicago
Keep in mind I'm just guessing....
Is it likely that 110 IN THE SHADE close on July 31st or will they renew or something?
It's not sad when a show closes after a long run. If anything it's good news because the theatre owners can bring in something new. I still don't get why peope just go to see one show repleastedly instad of seeing all the other shows out there.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I hate to it, but I think these predictions of GREY GARDENS closing around Labor day or so are a bit overreaching. Despite the bump in grosses, I don't think it's going to make it past July.
I think Grey Gardens will close when Ebersole leaves. It will at least make it through the summer, I think.
I adore RENT and don't want it to ever close, BUT...I can't help but imagine the despaired mayhem and fierce debate on this board, when it announces its closing !!! It's gonna be the war of all wars, there will be blood, heads will roll (eyes also) !!! LOL
