Why is Broadway so conservative? In regards to women. With women only getting the direction and Song TONYS in the last 20 years. If broadway is going to be better it needs to embrace diversity. I believe broadway is very conservative

The original post says "I believe Broadway is very conservative"
I would disagree with that statement----a "conservative" would not have adult themes, profanity, scantily clad dancers, etc in shows. I doubt any true conservative would leave a Broadway show today without complaining about the "filth" in the show. And a true conservative would even complain about the Disney shows as not being family friendly enough.
Now, if you are complaining that not enough females are nominated and winning Tony Awards that actually points to the lack of females eligible for nominations. The entire entertainment industry (and the education programs---BFA, MFA) need to do more to recruit and encourage females and minorities to become writers, directors, etc.

Sexist, not conservative.
It's kind of hard for them to win Tonys when they don't go into those jobs nearly as much as men.

It's not like Broadway was ignoring the great female talents of the 40s, 50s, and 60s-- there weren't many, aside from designers and actresses. Agnes DeMille and Onna White are the only two choreographers that come to mind. Betty Comden and Dorothy Fields are the only two songwriters. Do I need to go on?

I agree with DramaMama. There have always typically been a lot more men who were composers, directors, etc. I think that there are more and more women breaking into these fields now, which is great.
And, I agree that your concern is more one of sexism rather than of Broadway being "conservative".

Don't forget Dania Krupska, nominated for Tony's for her choreography of The Most Happy Fella and The Happiest Girl in the World.

Don't forget Dania Krupska,
Just pronouncing her name is refreshing enough.
