Hi kids. I'm catchin' Dianne Wiest in a matinee of MEMORY HOUSE in April. (Then S. MAGNOLIAS that night.)

Anyone heard any advance buzz on MEMORY HOUSE at all? Wiest performs live so infrequently that I am jazzed to be catching her! Anyone heard any MEMORY HOUSE buzz, or ever see her live onstage before?

I've seen her on stage in a few things and she has always been good. I first recall seeing her as Hedda Gabler in a Yale Rep production which was directed by Lloyd Richards and featured James Earl Jones. I saw her, again with Jones, and Christopher Plumber in "Othello" where she played Desdemona. A year or so before that production, I had the misfortune to have seen her in "Frankenstein". She was not bad but the production was a mess and closed after running only one night. I saw a preview performance.

She was a terrific Desdemona in that Jones-Plummer OTHELLO (that also featured an unknown Kelsey Grammar as Cassio). A few years later, she gave a brilliant performance in Janucz Glawocki's HUNTING COCKROACHES.

She also was quite good as Herodias in the SALOME reading with Pacino as Herod and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Salome at St. Ann's Warehouse (Marisa Tomei took over the title role when it went to Broadway, but wasn't as effective).

A great actress in any medium -- stage or film -- and I'm sure she'll be wonderful in MEMORY HOUSE.
